Story Transcript:

Hr: Jednog sunčanog jutra u Dubrovniku, Ivan se šetao starim kamenim ulicama.
En: One sunny morning in Dubrovnik, Ivan walked through the old stone streets.

En: The birds were singing, and the sky was a clear blue.

En: Ivan loved the peace that the morning brought before the city came alive with tourists.

En: He came across a small dog happily running around alone.

En: The dog didn’t have a collar, and Ivan immediately thought it was lost.

Hr: Odlučio je pomoći.
En: He decided to help.

Hr: "Priđi, priđi," dovikivao je Ivan, šireći ruke.
En: "Come here, come here," Ivan called out, spreading his arms.

Hr: Pas je mahao repom i veselo došao do Ivana.
En: The dog wagged its tail and happily came to Ivan.

En: "We'll find you a home," Ivan said, not knowing that the dog was already home and his name was Maks.

En: Ivan set off with Maks down the street, looking around for someone who might look like the owner.

En: They didn't know each other, but Ivan felt a connection with the little dog.

En: As they passed by the shop window with large glass, Ivan noticed how the dog kept looking at his reflection in the glass.

Hr: "Pas se sigurno prepoznaje i misli da vidi drugog psa," pomislio je Ivan i smiješno rekao: "Hej, Maks, jesmo li pronašli tvog prijatelja?
En: "The dog surely recognizes himself and thinks he's seeing another dog," Ivan thought and jokingly said, "Hey, Maks, have we found your friend?"

Hr: "U tom trenutku niz ulicu protrljala je brza, mlada žena.
En: At that moment, a quick, young woman brushed past them down the street.

En: It was Petra, worried because her dog Maks had gone missing while she was buying bread at the nearby bakery.

En: Petra spotted Ivan playing with Maks's reflection in the glass and ran towards them.

Hr: "Maks!
En: "Maks!"

Hr: " povikala je s olakšanjem.
En: she called out with relief.

En: The dog turned and happily ran towards Petra.

Hr: "Oh, oprostite," rekao je Ivan, shvativši svoju zabunu.
En: "Oh, I'm sorry," Ivan said, realizing his mistake.

Hr: "Mislio sam da je pas izgubljen.
En: "I thought the dog was lost."

En: Petra laughed and thanked Ivan for looking after Maks.

En: In the end, the three of them laughed about the situation.

En: Ivan and Petra started talking, and Maks, content to be back with his owner, rested in the shade.

En: "It seems like Maks will have two friends today," Petra said as she and Ivan arranged to have coffee.

En: The sun continued to shine over Dubrovnik, but their mornings would never be the same again.

Hr: Ivan i Petra postali su dobri prijatelji, zahvaljujući maloj zabuni s odrazom u staklu.
En: Ivan and Petra became good friends, all thanks to a little mix-up with a reflection in the glass.
