Calling All Cars #4, "The Human Bomb,"
Two brazen criminals, Cochran and Colton, execute a carefully planned heist that begins with breaking into a San Diego Ford dealership in the dead of night. After stealing a shiny gray roadster from the showroom floor, they transform it in their garage over two days, painting it a dull black to make it unrecognizable. Their target is ambitious: a money car carrying nearly one hundred thousand dollars in weekend receipts from the Agua Caliente Casino to the bank. They stake out a remote stretch of road along the National City Dike, where they plan to ambush the vehicle when it passes through around 11:30 in the morning.
The unsuspecting victims are two Mexican police officers, Nemesio Monroy and J.V. Barrigo, who regularly transport the casino's cash across the border. As Monroy jokes about his growing family and the pair laugh their way through Tijuana toward the customs gate, they have no idea what awaits them on that isolated stretch of highway. The criminals are prepared to use deadly force if necessary, believing themselves clever enough to get away with murder and robbery—but as the narrator warns, all criminals make mistakes.
