Calling All Cars #5, "Cookie Vejar Killing," takes listeners into the violent world of Prohibition-era bootleggers who turn to armed robbery when legitimate criminal enterprise dries up. Petty whiskey peddler Raleigh McAllister and sailor bootlegger James Rogan find their bootlegging business squeezed by federal crackdowns and police pressure. After losing money at Blackie McKnight's illegal gambling establishment on 7th Street, the desperate criminals decide the joint's nightly take of a couple thousand dollars makes it a perfect target for a stick-up. They case the location and return in the early morning hours with guns drawn, forcing everyone inside to sit on the floor and remove their shoes.
The situation turns deadly when the robbers discover one of their victims is Deputy Sheriff Cookie Vihar, who had stopped by the gambling house while looking for a suspect. When Rogan threatens the deputy and Vihar stands up to the armed criminals, the confrontation escalates rapidly. What began as a simple robbery transforms into a cop killing that will bring down the full force of law enforcement across the country, as every officer joins the hunt for those who dared to murder one of their own.

Calling All Cars #4, "The Human Bomb,"
Two brazen criminals, Cochran and Colton, execute a carefully planned heist that begins with breaking into a San Diego Ford dealership in the dead of night. After stealing a shiny gray roadster from the showroom floor, they transform it in their garage over two days, painting it a dull black to make it unrecognizable. Their target is ambitious: a money car carrying nearly one hundred thousand dollars in weekend receipts from the Agua Caliente Casino to the bank. They stake out a remote stretch of road along the National City Dike, where they plan to ambush the vehicle when it passes through around 11:30 in the morning.
The unsuspecting victims are two Mexican police officers, Nemesio Monroy and J.V. Barrigo, who regularly transport the casino's cash across the border. As Monroy jokes about his growing family and the pair laugh their way through Tijuana toward the customs gate, they have no idea what awaits them on that isolated stretch of highway. The criminals are prepared to use deadly force if necessary, believing themselves clever enough to get away with murder and robbery—but as the narrator warns, all criminals make mistakes.

Calling All Cars #3, "York Gang Holdup," opens with Mrs. Taki Nago, a Japanese restaurant owner on Terminal Island, withdrawing $1,000 from her branch bank to cash checks for the fishermen and cannery workers who frequent her establishment. As she leaves the bank, a sedan pulls in front of her, and a young man jumps out and snatches the money from her hands before speeding away with his accomplice. The traumatized Mrs. Nago struggles to communicate the robbery through her broken English, first to a confused postal clerk, then to firemen at the engine house across the street.
The case presents immediate challenges for the Los Angeles Police Department. Mrs. Nago's descriptions of the suspects are frustratingly vague: both appear to be Mexican, one wearing a gray suit and cap, the other in a dark suit and cap, driving what might be a bright green automobile. As Chief of Detectives H.S. Seager notes in his introduction, crimes occurring in foreign language communities create significant obstacles, with communication barriers hampering both witness statements and investigative progress. With the drawbridge raised to trap the suspects on Terminal Island, Captain A.L. Gentry and Detective Evans rush to the scene to begin tracking down the bandits with virtually no solid clues to guide them.

Calling All Cars #2, "Burma White Case," a young blonde woman named Burma Adams meets the wrong kind of man at a nightclub and finds herself drawn into a violent crime spree that shocks Los Angeles. Burma's companion is Tom White, a hardened ex-convict fresh out of prison on parole, who introduces her to his brand of big-time criminal operations. What begins as stealing a car quickly escalates into a series of brutal armed robberies across the city. On the night of August 16th, White and Burma hold up multiple victims, culminating in the shooting of Cora Whittington and Cromby Allen when one victim resists.
The horrific attack sends shockwaves through Los Angeles and triggers an unprecedented police response. Chief Davis orders the city's first-ever police blockade, deploying over 300 patrolmen throughout the city to scrutinize every passing automobile. As Tom White continues his reign of terror, switching stolen cars and hitting chain stores, drug stores, and pedestrians on the street, the net begins to tighten. When officers from Radio Car 13 spot a stolen Chevrolet at a filling station and learn it belongs to a mysterious blonde woman, the investigation reaches a critical turning point.
