The trade deadline has come and gone as Jerry Dipoto trades away Roenis Elias, Hunter Strickland, and Mike Leake. What did we get back? A bunch of unproven minor leaguers who might not even be good enough to make the Big League team ever. There's plenty of money freed up for future contracts though. Will any of it actually get used? Softy, after spending most of the season letting the team's struggles roll off his back, has finally had enough. Chuck Powell, KJR's morning show co-host and resident baseball expert is a little more optimistic about the changes and what's to come for the team. He goes in depth on the trades, and the team's farm system. A rebuilding baseball team is one of the worst positions to find yourself in as a fan. In pro football, you know that you can draft well, and sign some guys in the offseason and turn things around quickly. In college, you can recruit well. Basketball teams' fortunes can change with one great draft pick, or one free agent signing. In baseball, it's a long slog, and without a true cap, it's harder to attract those free agents away from a team like the Yankees. It's a struggle we as M's fans know all too well. Hopefully this is the rebuild that turns our fortunes around. ...Hopefully...
