From Forward Operating Base (FOB) Wilson in Kandahar, Afghanistan, Irving would establish a reputation as a sniper that went well beyond the boundaries of his battalion. His extraordinary talents and success caused ripples of fear throughout the militants in the area. However, THE REAPER is more than just a recounting of kills on missions. Irving goes where few who have written about their war experiences have gone before. He brings the reader to the front line of battle, while allowing the reader to experience the human condition and frailty one deals with in such a deadly environment. The myriad progressions a sniper must go through for that one shot is something each reader will also feel inside them. And that moment the shot is taken will leave the reader breathless. This feeling is expertly captured in chapter 6, The Chechen Comes Calling. Here Irving relates his pulsating encounters with a rival sniper, The Chechen. Their Danse Macabre, played out over the desert sands of the Middle East, is some of the most riveting narrative one will ever experience in the military genre
. THE REAPER is an astonishing first-person account of Irving’s development into an expert assassin offering a fascinating and extremely rare view of special operations combat missions through the eyes of a Ranger sniper in the war on terror. From the brotherhood and sacrifice in battle to the cold reality of taking a life to protect another, no other book dives so deep inside the life of a sniper on point.
Nicholas Irving spent six years in the Army’s Special Operations 3rd Ranger Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment, serving from demolitions assaulter to Master Sniper. He was the first African American to serve as a sniper in his battalion and is now the owner of HardShoot, where he trains personnel in the art of long-range shooting, including cross training and training with Olympic precision shooter Amanda Furrer, as well as members of the Spec Ops community. His legendary status as a sniper has led to having an AR15 rifle named after him. He lives in San Antonio, Texas.
