Story Transcript:

En: On a clear Saturday morning, Pieter, with a head full of things to do, entered the local supermarket.

En: He tightly held his shopping list and headed straight to the fruit and vegetable section.

En: His wife, Lize, who always insisted on their eating healthily, had sent him a clear list.

En: Among other things, he had to choose a watermelon that is sweet and juicy.

Af: Pieter was nie juis 'n kenner van vrugte nie, en dikwels het hy net gegryp wat maklik was.
En: Pieter was not exactly a fruits expert, and often he just grabbed what was easy.

En: His eyes looked at the large green watermelons, and he wondered how he would ever choose the perfect one.

En: In the process, he began to whistle a nice tune in his head, totally unaware of what was going on around him.

En: Meanwhile, Lize, who had decided to surprise Pieter in the store, also showed up at the fruit section.

En: She wore a new hat that was wide and as green as a watermelon, and from a distance, she decided to watch her husband without him knowing.

En: While Pieter was still studying the watermelon mountain in front of him, Lize hid behind one of the shelves.

En: Out of the corner of his eye, Pieter saw something green and round, and without properly looking, he thought it was the watermelon he had come for.

En: He reached out his hand and gave the green object a gentle tap.

En: Suddenly, the watermelon, or so he thought, softly giggled.

En: Pieter quickly jumped up and realized he wasn't looking at a watermelon, but at the hat sitting on top of his wife's head.

En: Lize burst out laughing, and Pieter's face turned as red as a tomato.

En: He immediately apologized, but Lize just laughed and said, "It's okay, dear, I think I've got a new nickname – Watermelon!"

En: The other customers around them also laughed, and everyone in the supermarket showed a smile.

En: It was a small incident, but it reminded Pieter and Lize not to always be so serious and to appreciate the funny side of life.

Af: Van daardie dag af het Pieter altyd twee keer gekyk voordat hy 'n watermeloen gekies het.
En: From that day on, Pieter always looked twice before choosing a watermelon.

Af: En vir Lize?
En: And for Lize?

En: She didn't wear her hat anymore when she went shopping with Pieter.

En: The supermarket adventure gave them a story to tell to friends and family for years to come.

Af: En so elke keer as hulle by 'n watermeloen verbyloop, sou 'n glimlag op hul gesigte verskyn, en hulle sou mekaar 'n liefdevolle kloppie gee.
En: So every time they passed a watermelon, a smile would appear on their faces, and they would give each other a loving tap.

En: The family continued to find joy in the little things of everyday life and never underestimated the pleasure of a good laugh.
