Story Transcript:

En: On a sunny day, Aiva went to the central market of Riga to shop for dinner.

En: The market was full of people rushing from one stall to another to find the best goods for the best price.

Lv: Aiva bija uzdevusi sev mērķi iegādāties svaigus tomātus savai iemīļotajai pastai.
En: Aiva had set herself a goal to buy fresh tomatoes for her favorite pasta.

Lv: Viņa šķirstīja cauri tirgus burzmotajām alejām un meklēja, kur tomāti izskatītos visgardākie un sulīgākie.
En: She was searching through the bustling alleys of the market, looking for where the tomatoes looked the most flavorful and juicy.

En: Suddenly, her eyes fell on round, red tomatoes displayed on a wooden table.

Lv: Aiva, nedomājot ne sekundi, piegāja pie galda, kur aiz tā stāvēja vīrietis vārdā Juris.
En: Aiva, without a second thought, approached the table where a man named Juris stood behind it.

En: Juris had simply stopped by the market after work to buy a few things for home, but he was in no way involved in selling.

Lv: Aiva nepamanīja, ka Jurim līdzi nebija ne svari, ne naudas kase; viņa uzrunāja viņu: ""Labdien! Cik maksā šie tomāti?"
En: Aiva didn't notice that Juris didn't have scales or a cash register with him; she addressed him, ""Hello! How much do these tomatoes cost?"

Varbūt varat man atdot par lētāku cenu?"
En: Juris was surprised and confused because he was not a seller at all, but Aiva had already started bargaining for the price of the tomatoes, ""There are always discounts on Wednesdays at the market. Maybe you can give it to me for a lower price?"

Lv: Juris ar vieglu smīnu atbildēja: ""Es nesaprotu, es neesmu pārdevējs."
En: Juris replied with a slight smile, ""I don't understand, I'm not a seller."

Lv: Aiva apsarka, saprotot savu kļūdu. ""Atvainojiet, man likās, ka jūs strādājat šeit," viņa teica, joprojām turēdama tomātu sānā.
En: Realizing her mistake, Aiva blushed. ""I'm sorry, I thought you worked here," she said, still holding the tomatoes.

En: At that moment, the real vendor, Mārtiņš, arrived at them. ""Can I help you? These tomatoes are mine, and they cost one euro per kilogram," he explained.

En: Aiva bought the tomatoes, but before leaving, she wanted to smooth things over with Juris. ""I'm really sorry for the misunderstanding," she said.

Lv: Juris pasmaida un atbildēja: ""Neviens jau nav nekaitēts. Bija smieklīgi."
En: Juris smiled and replied, ""No harm done. It was funny."

Lv: Aiva un Juris aizgāja katrs savā virzienā, bet abiem tirgū šī bija neaizmirstama diena.
En: Aiva and Juris went their separate ways, but for both of them, this was an unforgettable day at the market.

En: Aiva laughed for a long time about her awkward moment, but Juris came up with a new meal idea - cabbage and tomato salad.

Lv: Un tā, vienkārši kārtējā diena tirgū, kļuva par neaizmirstamu stāstu, ko Aiva varētu stāstīt draugiem, kad noplūkti tomāti jau sen būtu pagatavoti un apēsti.
En: And so, just like any other day at the market, it became an unforgettable story that Aiva could tell her friends long after the tomatoes were picked, cooked, and eaten.
