The Afghan war has become the longest battle in U.S. military history, and as Michael Golembesky shows in LEVEL ZERO HEROES, a conflicted and complex one as well. As a member of the elite Marine Special Operations team, Golembesky knows all too well that the Rules of Engagement our nation’s military leaders impose on U.S. servicemen and women are possibly making not just their jobs more difficult they could be putting lives at risk. Why are these “rules” enacted and what does the military leadership expect to gain from them as U.S. soldiers on the front lines in the war on terror often have their hands tied? Mike Golembesky writes from the heart and the gut as one who was there with his fellow Marines in one of the nastiest battles our forces have encountered in the 12+ years we’ve been entrenched in Afghanistan. This is the first book about the U.S. Marines Special Operations since it was created in 2006.
As the U.S. prepares for the long-awaited draw down in Afghanistan, and the turning over to the Afghan forces the job of taking care of their own country, Mike Golembesky is one of the many veterans of this battle and the one man who fought in that region who is perfect for discussing what went right, what went wrong, and what leaving means to the U.S. and to our security in this ongoing struggle against terrorism. Some major points Mike will delve in to with you and your audience include:
• What is the confidence level of the US in the Afghanistan military/government regarding being to do the job after we’ve left?
• Does the US departure mean not just al Qaeda having an open avenue in to toppling Kabul but maybe ISIS as well?
• If our military leadership had used different Rules of Engagement would the situation on the ground in Afghanistan (and even the entire Middle East) be different now?
• Does leaving Afghanistan open the US up to more potential terrorist attacks against the US, our interests and people abroad, and maybe even here at home?
• Who from the Middle East region is the biggest threat going forward to the safety of the United States?
Below are some additional points to consider on top of the themes of Rules of Engagement and the amazing work performed by the U.S. Marines Special Operations teams (MARSOC).
• This takes a complex situation like Afghanistan and compresses it into a single story that everyone can understand and learn from.
• Straight talking truth about modern warfare.
• The struggle that service members deal with on the battlefield, from both the enemy and from within their own ranks.
• An unapologetic look at what went well and what went wrong with the war.
• The first look at Marine Special Operations since being created in 2006.
