Story Transcript:

He: שמש מאירה, שמיים כחולים והחוף של תל אביב ממלא את האוויר בשירתו המלחית.
En: The sun shines, the sky is blue, and the beach of Tel Aviv fills the air with its salty scent.

He: אברהם, חייל משוחרר בן ה-22, שב למדינה אחרי ארבע שנים של מסע חיים בניו זילנד.
En: Avraham, a 22-year-old discharged soldier, returned to the country after four years of life's journey in New Zealand.

He: את מרים הוא פגש בתחנת אוטובוס בחיפה בחזרה לתל אביב.
En: He met Miriam at a bus station in Haifa on his way back to Tel Aviv.

He: מרים אישה שמחה ואינטיליגנטית, בת חמשים שמלמדת אנגלית בבית הספר השכונתי.
En: Miriam is a happy and intelligent woman, fifty years old, who teaches English at the neighborhood school.

He: תכניתם לשייר בכיכר רבין שאחריהם יישבו בפאב.
En: Their plan was to march in Rabin Square and then sit in a pub.

He: אברהם מרגיש בעל מקום וזר במקביל.
En: Avraham feels both at home and foreign at the same time.

He: הלשון שלו שואבת מונחים מעורבים, עברית חלודה מעורבת באנגלית בהרגל המוכר לו.
En: His language mixes terms, with antiquated Hebrew interspersed with English in the familiar way.

He: "אז מה רואים פה בתל אביב בדרך כלל?
En: "So what do you usually see here in Tel Aviv?"

He: " שאלה מרים.
En: Miriam asked.

He: בטעות, אברהם ענה, "בונים חוף", שעשוי להתפרש כ"בונים את החוף".
En: Accidentally, Avraham replied, "Building a beach," which could be interpreted as "building the beach."

He: מרים בהלה וחשבה שכוון לכך שהממשלה מתכננת לבנות בפשטת הים.
En: Miriam was alarmed and thought that he meant that the government was planning to build in the sea area.
