In total, Clancy wrote more than one hundred fiction and non-fiction books. His first effort, The Hunt for Red October, sold briskly as a result of rave reviews, and then catapulted onto the New York Times bestseller list in 1984 after President Reagan pronounced it “the perfect yarn.” From that day forward, Clancy established himself as an undisputed master at blending exceptional realism and authenticity, intricate plotting, and razor-sharp suspense. Four of his novels became the basis for hit movies (The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, and The Sum of All Fears). Another hit film, 2013’s Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, was based on an original story about the early CIA days of Clancy’s hero.
