The Bible Days
Giants in the Land
The famous Hollywood director, Cecil B DeMille made the 1956 film, The Ten Commandments. It is the greatest epic religious drama I have ever seen. If Cecil would have lived longer, he could have done more because the film was about Moses, and Moses received five books from God. Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. The book of Numbers would have been interesting for a film after The Ten Commandments.
Numbers chapter 13 tells us about giants in the land of Canaan. This was after Israel went through the opening of the Red Sea and was in the wilderness seeking to enter the Promised Land. Moses sent 12 Israelite spies (one from each tribe) to Canaan. They went unto the brook of Eshcol and cut down a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they carried it between two upon a staff.
When the spies returned to Moses, Aaron, and the congregation, they gave a good report that the land flowed with milk and honey and they showed the fruit. They didn’t have a good report about the people there. The spies said that they were not able to go up against the people because they were stronger. The men had great stature. The spies said that they saw giants, the sons of Anak, and they said that they were in their own sight as grasshoppers, and so were in the giants eyes. The spies lacked faith.
This story would have been a great film to make after the Ten Commandments.
