Have you ever heard a voice in your head telling you that you’re not enough or that someone else doesn’t approve of you? This is just one example of a “saboteur” who shows up. But, these saboteurs are not necessarily bad. Once we recognize them, we can call them out and shift our mindset to a more positive one. In this week’s episode, Jenny Toh teaches us about the importance of mental fitness to combat the saboteurs in our heads.
Jenny teaches us that judging ourselves and others tends to be the core saboteur, but then we all face other unique accomplice saboteurs. I found out that my main saboteurs are being restless, a pleaser, and a hyper-achiever. I definitely recognize these voices inside my head and, after this episode, I am going to be more aware of when they are showing up versus how I want to be showing up.
Here are the take-aways from this episode:
-Being mentally fit means being able to deal with life from a positive and resilient mindset
-Choose to see the gift and the learning opportunity
-To start exercising our mental muscles, we need to know the voices in our head hijacking us
-The “judge” is the main saboteur in all of us - judging ourselves, judging others, and fearing others’ judgments
-The point of knowing your main accomplice saboteurs is to be able to pause and call out those voices
-To combat these saboteurs, do some consistent positive intelligence reps (breathing, listening) and do them consistently over time
-Your saboteur is a signal to shift your focus to a higher-level thinking and to do it as quick as possible
-Know your purpose and surround yourself with supporters
-Remember to celebrate who you are
