Born in 1932, Velma Margie Barfield would grow up on a small farm right outside Fayetteville, North Carolina with 8 other siblings. Money was tight and her father was a raging, abusive alcoholic, so her childhood was less than picturesque.
Velma would meet her first husband in high school, marry him and start a family and she thought things would improve as they had a great relationship. Soon though, bad things started happening and her husband would lose his life in a house fire. Depressed and on pain medication from some medical complications, she quickly became addicted to pills which made Velma make some questionable decisions.
More bad things continued to happen, and it seemed like anyone she came into close contact with, other than her son and daughter, would get violently ill and die.
Was it all just coincidence, or did Velma aide in their deaths?
Listen to Tiffany tell this twisted tale of addiction, mental health struggles, and frequent death that would eventually land Velma on Death Row.
