Story Transcript:

En: The first rays of the sun made their way through the window into Erik, Sofia, and Magnus' apartment in the heart of Stockholm.

Sv: En stor, brun kartong låg mitt på golvet i vardagsrummet.
En: A large, brown box lay on the floor in the living room.

Sv: Den hade inte blivit mindre skrämmande sedan föregående kväll.
En: It hadn't become any less intimidating since the previous evening.

Sv: Erik, en strävsam advokat, grymtade.
En: Erik, a diligent lawyer, grunted.

Sv: "Ingen instruktion i kartongen.
En: "No instructions in the box.

Sv: Typiskt IKEA.

En: Sofia, an esteemed doctor, nodded and rubbed her tired eyes.

Sv: Magnus, snickare till yrket, bara skrattade.
En: Magnus, a carpenter by trade, just laughed.

En: "We can figure it out," he said confidently, hammer in hand.

En: Meanwhile, a faint smell of freshly baked goods wafted from the kitchen.

Sv: Och så började det.
En: And so it began.

En: Piece by piece, they tried to figure out how all the parts would fit together.

En: A screw here, a dowel there, two boards here again.

En: Amidst it all, the coffee grew cold on the table, and the cinnamon buns lay forgotten in the oven.

Sv: Klockan tickade.
En: The clock ticked.

En: The sun moved from east to west, but the bookshelf still wasn't finished.

Sv: Erik mätte.
En: Erik measured.

Sv: Sofia satte i skruvar.
En: Sofia inserted screws.

Sv: Magnus svepte.
En: Magnus swept.

Sv: Det blev mer snett för varje steg.
En: It became more crooked with each step.

Sv: Ibland skrattade de.
En: Sometimes they laughed.

Sv: Ibland svor de.
En: Sometimes they cursed.

Sv: Men de gav aldrig upp.
En: But they never gave up.

En: Finally, when midnight struck, Sofia read from the box.

Sv: “BILLY”, stod det.
En: "BILLY," it said.

En: They stood and looked at their lopsided creation.

En: "Billy doesn't look as straight as his picture on the box," Erik stated, examining their ugly, crooked Billy.

Sv: Men deras uppdrag var inte klar.
En: But their mission wasn't complete.

Sv: De flyttade möblerna.
En: They rearranged the furniture.

En: Together, they had decided that their shared bookshelf would stand in the middle of the living room, a collection of their shared memories and books.

Sv: De samarbetade.
En: They worked together.

Sv: Erik höll i ena sidan, Sofia i den andra och Magnus styrde i mitten.
En: Erik held one side, Sofia held the other, and Magnus guided in the middle.

Sv: Och där, mitt i rummet, stod deras lite sneda Billy, stark och stolt.
En: And there, in the middle of the room, stood their slightly crooked Billy, strong and proud.

En: They stepped back, each with a smile on their faces.

En: They remembered the sweat, the shouting, the laughter, and now, the satisfaction.

En: And despite its tilt, Billy was perfect for them.

En: Billy became the home of their memories, each book a story.

En: "Think of all the fun memories we'll have when we look at this bookshelf," Sofia said, with a soft voice.

En: And they toasted to Billy, laughed at their shared endeavor.

En: Billy, despite its crookedness, became a symbol of their collective efforts.

En: It became a part of their home, of their lives.

En: Because in the end, it wasn't about whether Billy stood straight or crooked.

En: It was about the journey they had together, the journey of building Billy.
