Story Transcript:

El: Λάμπει ο ήλιος πάνω από την Αθήνα, ρίχνοντας τις πρώτες ακτίνες του στο Μνημείο του Ανώνυμου Στρατιώτη, όταν ο Γιάννης συναντά τον τουρίστα.
En: The sun shines above Athens, casting its first rays on the Monument of the Unknown Soldier when Giannis meets the tourist.

El: Ο ξένος, με τον χάρτη της πόλης ανά χείρας και την κάμερα στον αυχένα, κοιτάζει απορημένος τα ελληνικά γράμματα.
En: The stranger, with the map of the city in hand and the camera around his neck, looks puzzled at the Greek letters.

El: Με ένα χαμόγελο στα χείλη, ο Γιάννης αποφασίζει να τον βοηθήσει.
En: With a smile on his lips, Giannis decides to help him.

El: "Τόπος αξιοθέατος είναι αυτός," του λέει ο Γιάννης, δείχνοντας το μνημείο.
En: "This is a place of interest," Giannis tells him, pointing at the monument.

El: Καθώς εξηγεί, είναι δύσκολο να μεταφράσει την λέξη "φιλότιμο", που είναι τόσο ελληνική όσο και η Ακρόπολη, σε γλώσσα που να μπορεί να κατανοήσει ο τουρίστας.
En: As he explains, it's difficult to translate the word "filotimo," which is as Greek as the Acropolis, into a language that the tourist can understand.

En: One of the reasons we're laughing is because you are filotimos, Giannis.

En: You share your time and knowledge with a stranger because you want him to understand."

El: "Όταν κάθησαν όλοι στην σκιά, τον πρόσκαλαν και τον ξένο.
En: As they all sat in the shade, they welcomed the stranger as well.

El: Καθώς το ποτό του εξαφανιζόταν, χαμογελούσε.
En: As his drink disappeared, he smiled.

El: Ίσως δεν έμαθε τι σημαίνει ακριβώς "φιλότιμο", αλλά έμαθε τρόπο που το ζουν οι Έλληνες.
En: Perhaps he didn’t learn exactly what "filotimo" means, but he learned how the Greeks live it.

El: Και αυτό, μάλλον, είναι το ίδιο σημαντικό.
En: And that, perhaps, is equally important.
