Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 07 Episode 29 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a bright and sunny Monday morning 30 October 2023.

Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Blue Continent.

In rugby union: The RWC2023 final between South Africa and New Zealand will forever be controversial for a decision that saw Springboks Captain Siya Kolisi avoid All Blacks Captain, Sam Cane's fate for a head contact tackle on All Blacks No 8 Ardie Savea.

Kolisi was given a yellow card on review, but the TMO Tom Foley ruled it should not be upgraded to red.

The All Blacks played 62 minutes with 14 men, while South Africa had 18 minutes with 14 players.

The All Blacks were gutsy in attempting to defy the odds, but in the end, it was a bridge too far.

All Blacks Captain Sam Cane should do the right thing by New Zealand and step down alongside his Coach, Ian Foster.

I say this because, unlike Richie McCaw and previous All Black Captains, Sam Cane has never been a clear-cut starter in the All Blacks teams and as such, he has been a polarizing figure in New Zealand.

OK he had a blinder in the RWC2023 semifinal, but that’s after he was MIA for the most of the tournament, including the final.

This will give incoming Coach, Scott Robertson a clean slate to work with, and name the rightful man as skipper – Ardie Savea.

In rugby league: PNG Kumuls speedster Alex Johnston cut through Fiji’s defence to score the opener in just the second minute.

But it was all Fiji from there as Kurt Donoghoe and the blockbusting Maika Sivo each scored a double, Captain Tui Kamikamica, Caleb Navale and Jason Qareqare also scored for the Fiji Bati’s biggest ever win over Papua New Guinea 16-43, that left the Port Moresby fans shell-shocked.

In football: Harry Kane scored one of his three goals from inside his own half as Bayern Munich thrashed newly promoted side Darmstadt 8-0 in Bundesliga action yesterday.

Kane lobbed the goalkeeper from the centre circle to score Bayern’s fifth and his second.

“To score a hat-trick is always a great feeling for a striker,” said the England Captain, who has now scored two hat-tricks in nine Bundesliga games since joining Bayern earlier this year.

In combat sports: Never has a victory seemed so hollow. WBC World Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury was knocked down in the third round by a left hook from former UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou in his first professional boxing fight.

And with that punch, Tyson Fury – The Gypsy King “lost his mystique”.

“What he said at the end to Oleksandr Usyk, ‘Clear the ring out, we’re going to go right now,’ no-one’s buying it anymore,” DAZN
pundit Todd Grisham said.

And finally in this BREAKING STORY: Eddie Jones’ disastrous second stint as Wallabies Coach has come to an end.

After a worst-ever Rugby World Cup performance, Jones and Rugby Australia have agreed for him to quit, according to multiple reports.

It was widely reported Jones had interviewed with Japan over their national coaching job before the World Cup, which he strongly denied.

“There’s no named source for these stories, so there’s no credibility about the story to start with,” Jones said.

“Secondly, the President of Japan Rugby happens to be a very close associate of mine. Every time I go to Japan, I have coffee with him. We talk about rugby. But I have done that for 30 years.”

“The only thing I’m disappointed about is the media was trying to portray me as not being committed to Australian rugby,” he said.

“The last thing anyone could criticise me about is commitment. Anyone that really knows me, knows I’ve been committed to it. I’ve given it a go.”

“So I’ve got the timing wrong, because we’re not ready for the change yet. But hopefully maybe what I can be is a catalyst for change and people will start to see.”

Jones was contracted until after the RWC2027 to be held in Australia.

Sayanora Eddie!

And that’s a wrap!
