In rugby league: The NSW Blues levelled the State of Origin series, after charging out to a record-breaking 34-0 halftime lead — the largest in ORIGIN history - on their way to a famous 38-18 win, in front of more than 90,000 fans at the MCG last night.   So ORIGIN III will be the decider at Suncorp Stadium. And in football - the latest EURO 2024 results: England 0-0 Slovenia in Cologne and Denmark 0-0 Serbia in Munich, Slovakia 1-1 Romania in Frankfurt and Ukraine 0-0 Belgium in Stuttgart.   The last pool games today just completed: Georgia 2-0 Portugal at Gelsenkirchen and Czech Republic 1-2 Turkey in Hamburg.   In Combat Sports: After his BIG upset in Saudi Arabia last weekend, Aussie fighter Robert Whittaker is looking to make a quick turnaround by competing at UFC305 on 17 August in Perth, Western Australia as a backup for the main event UFC Middleweight headliner between reigning UFC Champion Dricus Du Plessis from South Africa and former two-time titleholder Kiwi-Nigerian Israel Adesanya.   In Sports Biz: ABC drew 7.7 million viewers for the Panthers 2-1 win over the Oilers in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final on Monday night, reports SBJ. That’s easily the best hockey audience of any kind in the US since Game 7 of the 2019 Final when Blues-Bruins drew an NHL-record 8.9 million viewers on NBC.  ABC averaged 4.2 million viewers for the seven-game Panthers-Oilers series, up 58% from the five-game Golden Knights-Panthers series last year. Across all of North America, Game 7 on Monday night drew 16.3 million viewers, marking the second-best NHL game on record. Also across North America, the seven-game Panthers-Oilers series averaged 8.8 million viewers, up 85% from last year.  Only in the USA: After his 200M race at the US Athletics Olympic Games trial yesterday, Rapper Snoop Dogg was pulled over by officials from the US Anti-Doping Agency, but before they could test him Snoop Dogg rapped, “Who Am I? Drop it like it’s hot!” the crowd cheered and they let him go!   And that’s a wrap peeps!   Please hit the like and subscribe buttons below if you want to receive more Pasifika sports highlights on Breakfast Bites.   Mahalo and Ka kite; for TEIVOVOdigital.com, I’m Culden Kamea tanking you all too mass for all your love and support.   #TEIVOVORugby  #TEIVOVODigital #TeivovoRugby #TeivovoDigital #rugby #rugby7s #FijiRugby #rugbyunion #rugbyleague #Raka #team #rugbytraining #sports #FRU #Fiji #womensrugby #rugbygirls #wrugby #ladiesrugby #womeninsport  #woman #rugby #rugby7s #FijiRugby #rugbyunion #rugbyleague #fitness #weightlifting #training #team #rugbytraining #sports  #rakavi  #DevelopmentFiji

25 GIU 2024 · Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 09 Episode 79 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Wednesday morning 26 June 2024 where it is 21 degrees Celsius at 5am.   Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the blue continent.   In Rugby Union: Former NRL, Fiji Bati and Fiji rugby union 7s star, Jarryd Hayne will not face a fourth trial over the alleged sexual assault of a woman on the night of the 2018 Grand Final.   This after the NSW Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions said on Tuesday it had determined another trial would not proceed. Justice Deborah Sweeney, one of the judges who decided the appeal in Hayne’s favour two to one, had said that in light of “the history of this matter, to put the applicant on trial for a fourth time would not be in the interests of justice”. Hayne’s first trial ended in a hung jury and he successfully appealed his convictions after the second trial. So what’s the bet, Haynes seeks compensation from the NSW judiciary for their handling of his initial prosecutions! In rugby league: Broncos NRL Premiership winner Gorden Tallis, is backing South Sydney to make one of the most improbable runs to the finals in NRL history. The Rabbitohs lost nine of their first 10 games this season to sit dead last after Round 11, having sacked their coach Jason Demetriou. But the Bunnies have since won four on the trot and with a 5-9 record they are 14th on the ladder and just two wins outside the top eight. And in football - the latest EURO 2024 results: Albania 0-1 Spain, Croatia 1-1 Italy, Netherlands 2-3 Austria, France 1-1 Poland, England vs Slovenia in Cologne and Denmark vs Serbia in Munich – both these games at 8pm GMT.   The last pool games tomorrow starting at 5pm GMT: Slovakia vs Romania in Frankfurt. Ukraine vs Belgium in Stuttgart, Georgia vs Portugal at Gelsenkirchen and Czech Republic vs Turkey in Hamburg. Both these games at 8pm GMT.   In Combat Sports: Mexican boxer Moises Calleros has been given a four-year ban by the UK Anti-Doping Agency after he tested positive for cocaine following his loss to Galal Yafai at the O2 Arena in London on the undercard of a Anthony Joshua fight last year, but HELLO . . the Mexican died three months ago! In Ice Hockey: The NHL capped one of its greatest season’s after the Panthers fought off one of the most improbable of Game 7 comebacks in the Stanley Cup Final, by the Oilers, who forced a Game 7 in Florida, home of the Panthers, after dropping the first three games of the series! The finals series capped significant gains for the NHL - among them: ·       An average of 1.3 million US viewers per game for the first three rounds of the playoffs, up by 14% from a year ago and the best such figure since 1996. ·       Record-level attendance in the regular season of 22.56 million, with games on average played to 97% venue capacity.  ·       Another league record for annual revenue of US$6.2Billion, thanks to the record attendance total, plus gains in media and sponsorship. And only in the USA: Legendary Rapper, Snoop Dogg ran a 200M exhibition race at the 2024 US Olympic Trials and recorded a time of 34.44secs, after which he was quoted telling journalists and fans, “For a 52-year-old, that ain’t bad.”   And that’s a wrap peeps!

Despite accepting the fight on only a week’s notice – after Khamzat Chimaev withdrew injured – the Aussie fighter took less than two minutes to end the fight with a stunning KO. In SportsBiz: In a soon-to-be announced one-of-a-kind sponsorship deal: French Open Tennis Champion Carlos Alcaraz is set to receive his own Nike logo along with a lucrative US$200Million contract.   That’s game, set and match Alcaraz!

While Anthony Seibold’s Manly Seas Eagles had no joy versus the Rabbitohs, it was a special night for Fiji international Caleb Navale who made his NRL debut. His Father, Eparama Navale played NRL for the Parramatta Eels in 1997-1998 and in the RLWC 2000 for the Fiji Bati. And in football - the latest EURO 2024 results: Netherlands 0-0 France, Georgia 1-0 Czech Republic in Hamburg, Turkey 0-3 Portugal in Dortmund and Belgium 2-0 Romania in Cologne.   Tomorrow: Switzerland vs Germany in Frankfurt at 8pm GMT and Scotland vs Hungary in Stuttgart at 8pm GMT.   In Super Netball: During the week, Queensland Firebirds interim Coach, Katie Walker promised fans four wins from four games to end their troubled Super Netball season.   Walker is their third Coach in just three rounds, with one who lasted just one week before resigning. In incredible scenes, Walker delivered on part one of that promise with the Firebirds heroic 78-70 win over West Coast Fever. Goal shooter and MVP Donnell Wallam’s class under the post saw her leading the charge - her incredible long range shooting netting 57/67 goals, including nine super-shots, which lifted her teammates to new heights. And the Adelaide Thunderbirds continued their hot run, demolishing the Melbourne Mavericks 41-67 in their biggest win of the season, to remain undefeated on their home court and rise to second on the Super Netball ladder.   In SportsBiz: Today’s media landscape is as uncertain as ever. Only one thing is constant: The number of customers who pay for TV access continues to decline big time.   Viewers some US TV companies lost between January and March 2024: · Comcast @ 487,000 · Spectrum @ 405,000 · Dish TV @ 348,000 · YouTube TV @ 150,000 Resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars in monthly fees lost to the pay-TV business.  Meanwhile, media companies continue to shell out billions of dollars for live sports. Redick has no coaching experience, most recently was an analyst for ESPN and called the NBA Finals. Which basically means, that LeBron gave the Lakers the green light to sign JJ! 21 GIU 2024 · Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 09 Episode 76 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Saturday morning 22 June 2024 where it is 22 degrees Celsius at 5am.   Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the blue continent.   In Rugby Union: Our World Famous tip for the Super Rugby Pacific Final at 7.05pm tonight at Eden Park in Auckland is for Wallace Sititi to rumble Hoskins Sotutu, allowing for Cortez Ratima and Damian McKenzie to spark the Chiefs backs – at Centre Anton Lienert-Brown to school Reiko Ioane and the back three of Emoni Narawa, Etene Nanai-Seturo and Shaun Stevenson to bambino the Blues.   Meanwhile in Monaco – the final rugby 7s qualifying tournament for the Paris Olympics had to be re-jigged after Papua New Guinea Men’s and Women’s teams didn’t show!   Argentina Women beat Samoa 5-26 and Tonga Men lost 5-14 to Chile in their first Pool games.   In rugby league: Neither side deserved to lose last night, but in the end the Melbourne Storm were too good, with their halfback Jahrome Hughes proving the difference in beating the Dolphins 24-30 in a thrilling, end-to-end contest at Suncorp Stadium that cements the Storm top of the NRL ladder.   And in the words of his Coach and mentor Wayne Bennett: “He was very good.” Five minutes after being injected into the game from the bench, Tevita Pangai Junior was placed on report for a late shot on Christian Welch. Later in the game, he put a big shot on Trent Loeiro. Speaking post game, James Graham said “Now every single forward in the NRL, when they come up against the Dolphins, are going to want to know where Tevita Pangai Junior is.” And the latest EURO 2024 results: Slovakia 1-2 Ukraine, Poland 1-3 Austria and this morning Netherlands vs France are locked nil all in the second half.   Tomorrow: Georgia vs Czech Republic in Hamburg, Turkey vs Portugal in Dortmund and Belgium vs Romania in Cologne.   In Boxing: One day after he announced on social media that he had “officially retired,” Ryan Garcia has been suspended for one year by the New York State Athletic Commission, according to the New York Post.   Garcia, 25, will also have to forfeit the US$1Million he won from his majority decision win over WBC Super Lightweight Champion Devin Haney in April - which is now a no-contest. In the WNBA: The first two WNBA matchups between rookie phenoms Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese did major business for the league—and generated significant controversy.   Round three on Sunday is poised to reach even higher levels.  Clark’s Indiana Fever and Reese’s Chicago Sky will play Sunday afternoon in Illinois. The average ticket price of US$271, according to TickPick, makes Sunday’s game the most expensive WNBA contest on record.  Expectations are sky-high on TV as well, as the second Fever-Sky matchup just five days ago generated an average audience of 2.25 million viewers on CBS, representing the largest audience for the WNBA on any network in 23 years. And in SportsBiz: The Pistons owe Monty Williams US$65Million for firing their Head Coach after just one season.   Only last summer, Detroit made Williams, at the time, the highest-paid Head Coach in the NBA with a US$78.5M contract.   But after they finished with a league-worst record of 14–68 in his first season, which included a 28-game losing streak - the longest in NBA history, they kicked his butt.   Painful oh so painful for the Pistons!

20 GIU 2024 · Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 09 Episode 75 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Friday morning 21 June 2024 where it is 23 degrees Celsius at 5am.   Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the blue continent.   In Rugby Union: The Super Rugby Pacific Final on Saturday night at Eden Park in Auckland sees the Blues and the Chiefs feature a galaxy of Maori and Pasifika stars.   For the Chiefs: 4. Jimmy Tupou 5. Tupou Vaa’i 6. Samipeni Finau 7. Luke Jacobson (C) 8. Wallace Sititi 9. Cortez Ratima 11. Etene Nanai-Seturo 12. Rameka Poihipi 13. Anton Lienert-Brown 14. Emoni Narawa and 15. Shaun Stevenson. And the Blues Maori and Pasifika Islanders: 1. Ofa Tu'ungafasi 3. Marcel Renata 4. Patrick Tuipulotu (C) 6. Akira Ioane 7. Dalton Papali'i 8. Hoskins Sotutu, 11. Caleb Clarke, 12. AJ Lam, 13. Rieko Ioane, 14. Mark Tele'a and 15. Stephen Perofeta. In rugby league: Even though he is yet to set foot in the Rabbitohs Heffron Park headquarters, South Sydney has completely flipped the script since Wayne Bennett was announced as their new Head Coach from 2025. Bennet has been working the phones talking to interim Head Coach Ben Hornby and players like Latrell Mitchell, Cody Walker, Jack Wighton and Damien Cook, who are now completely different players. Keaon Kolomatangi has also suddenly become one of the best middle forwards in the NRL. In fact, since Bennett signed on for 2025, the Rabbitohs have won three straight games – prior to his appointment they were one from 10. And Hornby was the Captain when Bennett smashed a 31-season title drought at the Dragons in 2010. Amazing! Latest EURO 2024 results: Scotland 1-1 Switzerland in Cologne, Slovenia 1-1 Serbia, Denmark 1-1 England and Spain 1-0 Italy.   Tomorrow: Slovakia vs Ukraine in Dusseldorf, Poland vs Austria in Berlin and Netherlands vs France in Leipzig at 8am Fiji time.   In SportsBiz: Viewership for the just completed NBA Finals were down 3% this year, while overall NBA playoff viewership was down 12%.   The five-game Celtics-Mavericks series averaged 11.3 million viewers across ABC and ESPN, down from 11.6 million for the five-game Nuggets-Heat last year. The NBA is still expected to sign new media rights deals delivering a massive increase compared to the current deals, which end after next season. In Boxing: “Mom has cancer... I’m being sued ... My supplements were tainted ... Going thru a divorce ... Devin asking for my win to be taken away ... I’m getting hit with everything. Boxing will be alright without me ... But it sucks as I was fun in the game ... And it was fun to punch people.   Y’all may catch me out and about but as far as boxing I don’t know. There is so much corruption I’m over it ... I may do acting or singing ... I’ll still be training but I’m hurt and I’m done with it and everyone ... The sad part is I’m a great boxer ... And I entertain and knock people out ... I’m sad because I love boxing ... Praying for everyone and I hope everyone has a great life.” “I’m officially retired,” Ryan Garcia letting off some steam. In the NBA, well not just yet but soon, very soon: The world’s tallest teenager, 18-year-old Canadian Olivier Rioux was measured by Guinness this week at seven feet nine inches tall, or 236cm tall. He wears size 20 shoes.   Unsurprisingly, Rioux is a handy basketball player and has committed to go to college in the US and play for the Florida Gators. Videos of the teen giant towering over opponents and dunking without jumping have gone viral. Er . . WNBA make the most of Caitlin Clark while you can! The next great white hope is on his way! In UFC: Kiwi-Nigerian former UFC Champion Israel Adesanya is favored to become a UFC champion again.   Sportsbetting currently has Adesanya as a slight favorite in his upcoming fight against UFC Middleweight Champion Dricus du Plessis in UFC305 on 17 August in Perth, Western Australia.

19 GIU 2024 · Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 09 Episode 73 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Wednesday morning 19 June 2024.   Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the blue continent.   In Rugby Union: The big questions to be answered at Churchill Park in Lautoka when Australia takes on the Fiji Men’s 7s Team over four trial games this week: Will Michael Hooper and Mark Waqanitawase make the cut for the Aussies?   And same with Selestino Ravutaumada and Iosefo Masi for Fiji – will they be going to Paris?   In rugby league: The Dolphins welcome a mid-season recruit into their starting 17, with Wayne Bennett unleashing former Bronco star and another Tongan tough guy, Tevita Pangai Junior, who will play his first NRL game of the year at Suncorp against the Storm on Friday night.   Remember the Dolphins only signed the Tongan tough guy after he was rejected by Craig Bellamy, following a stint in boxing.   Meanwhile, the Parramatta Eels have trimmed down the list of candidates for Head Coach to two, with Jason Demetriou and ex-Wallabies Coach, Michael Cheika knocked out of the running.   The Daily Telegraph reporting that either Josh Hannay or Jason Ryles will be Parramatta’s next coach from 2025 after progressing through to the next round of interviews. It appears that Trent Barrett, who is currently leading the side in an interim role, will also likely miss out. In EURO 2024 yesterday: England 1-0 Serbia, Romania 3-0 Ukraine, Belgium 0-1 Slovakia and Austria 0-1 France.   In other games today: Turkey vs Georgia in Dortmund at 5pm GMT and Portugal vs Czech Republic in Leipzig at 8pm GMT.   In the NBA Finals: Sixteen years after the Boston Celtics won their 17th NBA Championship, they grabbed a record-breaking 18th cruising to a 106-88 win over the Dallas Mavericks yesterday, to claim the NBA Finals series 4-1. With it, the Celtics left the Los Angeles Lakers behind on 17 NBA titles. Superstar Jaylen Brown was named Finals MVP, with 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists, while Jayson Tatum heavily involved as a scorer and playmaker, putting up 31 points to go with 11 assists.   In T20 International Cricket: Estonian cricketer Sahil Chauhan has shattered the record for fastest century in T20 International Cricket, finishing on 144 not out in just 27 deliveries against Cyprus.   Chauhan smacked 18 sixes during his onslaught, also a record in T20 International Cricket, helping Estonia chase down the 192-run target with 42 deliveries to spare. Chauhan also bettered Chris Gayle’s record for quickest hundred in men’s T20s, with the West Indies icon passing the milestone in 30 deliveries during an Indian Premier League game against the Pune Warriors in 2013. In the WNBA: One of the most catty rivalries in sports has another chapter.   In the Indiana Fever vs Chicago Sky game on Sunday, Caitlin Clark drove to the basket and got whacked in the head by who else - Angel Reese. After the Fever closed out a 91-83 win, in which Clark scored 23 points on 7-for-11 shooting, along with eight rebounds and nine assists, she was asked what was going through her mind when Reese was called for a flagrant foul. “What’s going through my mind? I need to make these two free throws. That’s all I’m thinking about. It’s just part of basketball. It is what it is,” Clark said. Reese — who recorded her sixth straight double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds while adding five assists — did not think she did anything wrong. “It’s a basketball play. I’m always going for the ball. Y’all are going to play that clip, what, 20 times before Monday,” Reese asked. Ooh kitty, kitty cool it babe! 17 GIU 2024 · Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 09 Episode 72 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Tuesday morning 18 June 2024.   Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the blue continent.   In Rugby Union: Chiefs who would have caught the eyes of the All Blacks selectors with their performances against the Hurricanes: Emoni Narawa is playing like a man who had his Rugby World Cup robbed and is desperate to win it back.   The wing was an electric and serious handful for the Hurricanes. Damian McKenzie stood up when it mattered as his perfect kicking off the tee for 15 points steered his side to victory. McKenzie was composed and brilliant throughout the game for the Chiefs, and the way he controlled the game after their fast start, is very encouraging for his desire to start at 10 for the All Blacks. Lastly, one of the players of the game was a barnstorming Wallace Sititi, who carried like a Spartan on the night. The Chiefs No. 8 made 150M, beating four defenders and still making 13 tackles. There is plenty of back-row depth in the All Blacks, but Sititi is really special with the ball in hand. In rugby league: Billy Slater has made two changes to his Maroons side that thumped NSW in ORIGIN 1, recalling two veterans. Despite his starring role after coming from the bench in the early stages of the series opener, Selwyn Cobbo has been left out of ORIGIN II. Eels back-rower J'Maine Hopgood is the other player to miss out, with Slater revealing the Eels gun had injured his back playing for his club. Tongan tough guy Felise Kaufusi starts on the bench for the MCG clash, with Kurt Capewell named to replace Cobbo in a more traditional utility role, providing forward cover, while also able to play Centre. In EURO 2024 yesterday: Jude Bellingham slotted home his first goal of EURO 2024 and the only goal of the game – a powerful header for England 1-0 Serbia.   In other games today: Romania 3-0 Ukraine in Munich, Belgium 0-1 Slovakia with the second half underway in Frankfurt and Austria vs France at 8pm GMT in Dusseldorf.   At the US Open: The putts kept dropping for popular Irishman Rory McIlroy at the US Open at Pinehurst N0. 2 North Carolina yesterday - one at the 12th from 22 feet, another on the short 13th.   After a hot streak of four birdies across a five-hole stretch, McIlroy stood two clear of Bryson DeChambeau at the 16th. And then it all fell apart. McIlroy missed a 30-inch putt at the 16th which DeChambeau, following in the group behind, parred.   McIlroy then parred on the 17th.   The 2011 US Open champion stood on the 18th tee and the 2020 US Open champion stood on the 17th.    After Bryson DeChambeau parred the 17th, McIlroy hit his approach from a sandy lie, short of the 18th green.   He pitched it to 3 feet 9 inches of the hole, poised to take the championship, but McIlroy missed the putt. Still with a chance to win, the Irishman tumbled to 5 under, one back from DeChambeau. There is no hiding from it - three bogeys in his last four holes is a choke – big time. McIlroy walked down the steps into the scoring room and then left without congratulating the 2024 US Open Champion, Bryson DeChambeau.    And in Boxing: “I wanted the knockout,” he said. “I hurt him a couple of times, looked at my Dad and he said, ’What are you doing?” I said I was just having fun.    “My corner said, ‘Do what you’re doing. If you want step on the gas or you can box and do what you want.’ “At the end of the day, I kept it clean, made him look silly and won easily,” said rising British star, Ben Whittaker after he beat the previously unbeaten Nigerian Ezra Arenyeka.
