7 FEB 2025 · Liam Shannon is the owner and head coach at Fight Academy Ireland. He sits down with us fresh off the back of doing Paul Hughes' PFL world title fight. Liam talks about the controversy surrounding the decision and how the camp went. He then walks us through his personal MMA journey and details how he got started in the game.
He began by watching UFC DVDs and jotting down notes, then taught himself to sign up for a class on the other side of the city. He eventually opened his own gym and became a professional MMA fighter himself. Liam had a fight career before becoming Belfast's number-one MMA coach. He talks about the ups and downs of the fight game.
He tells us about the difference in making weight when fighting compared to today's fighters. Since retiring from his career, Liam has built FAI from strength to strength. The gym is now home to world champions, professional fighters, and people who want to stay fit. It has become a pillar of the community. In 2024, a freak accident during a training session left pro-Ryan Curtis paralyzed from the neck down.
Liam talks about the day it happened and how he felt. Although it looked as if there was only a tiny chance of Ryan making a recovery, it was enough for Liam to believe in. He knew that Ryan's mindset was different from most people's and kept the faith. Today, Ryan Curtis is back on his feet and able to walk again.
Even though Liam has been retired for several years, he continues to train to stay in fighting shape. Liam Shannon's story is about hard work, perseverance, and belief.

24 GEN 2025 · Trigger Warning: themes of psychological and sexual abuse.
Haileigh Lamont’s stepfather began grooming her when she was just 7 years old. After a few short years, he began to abuse her sexually. The abuse continued well into her teenage years, right up until she left home to start university.
Haileigh says she was too afraid to tell anyone about the abuse because her abuser told her that he’d kill her if she mentioned it to anyone. This fear kept her silent until she left home and began life as a student. She no longer had to live with the worry of being left alone with her pedophile stepfather.
This newfound freedom allowed her to enjoy her life for the first time. Living and studying away from home helped build Haileigh’s confidence. So much so that she found the strength to go to the police and tell them everything that had happened from age 7-17. The police then charged her stepfather, and he was brought in front of a judge. He was found guilty and given a custodial sentence. Haileigh’s bravery and confidence were so that she waved her right to anonymity.
After the conviction, Haileigh started ‘Renegade Advocacy,’ an organization that is dedicated to helping other victims and survivors of sexual abuse. Haileigh’s story is one of triumph.

17 GEN 2025 · Ged became ‘TikTok famous’ by posting his party boy antics. He was already working in the content creation space by doing online marketing for different companies. But when he moved into a penthouse apartment in Belfast city centre with friend, Geady, they decided the should post clips of the fun they were having. The videos of them hitting the Belfast club scene proved very popular and instantly made the lads online celebrities.
Everyone wanted to party with Ged and Geady. They were getting invited to nightclubs, the drinks were on the house, and so were the drugs. Their apartment became the exclusive after-hours spot; everyone wanted to be on the entry list.
While the lifestyle sounds like a young man’s dream, Ged was still feeling an emptiness inside. Something was missing, but he didn’t know what. After being invited to a church service, he felt that hole being filled. He knew he wanted to give his life to God, but he also didn’t want to miss out on the social events he had coming up with. So he tried to hold off until he couldn’t hold off. He got baptized and became born again. Since committing to his faith, Ged hasn’t been happier. He is still creating content, but now it’s all about spreading the word of Jesus.
