16 NOV 2021 · William Mencham had just returned from his Sunday trip to the supermarket. A creature of habit, he would routinely buy two rotisserie chickens and a gallon of POM pomegranate juice to kick off the week. He sometimes chatted up Sherry, the cashier, if there wasn’t anyone in line behind him. ‘Bill’ - as his neighbors would call him - was beloved by all. He gave quarters to every kid hovering around the town’s many bubblegum dispensers, and ‘Bill’ always used his turn signal. But today was his last grocery run because Bill had unannounced guests.
