The operation continued for more than twenty hours. Early on October fourteenth, shift supervisor Luis Urzúa became the thirty third and final miner to leave the mine. All thirty three men had survived sixty nine days underground.
Their survival depended on rationing, organization, drilling technology, medical support, engineering, communication, and the fact that rescuers reached them before their underground conditions became irreversible.
