13 GIU 2024 · In this episode, hard water and it's impact on your home and drinking water is explored. Since Hard Water is a scaling agent, it can have an impact on your home in a variety of different ways. Two of the most significant are laundry and hot water heating. Learn what it is and how to treat hard water in your home. Most appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines, on demand and electric hot water tanks, water fed boilers, and ultraviolet disinfection systems have a less than 7 GPG level for warranty & operation requirements. Explore the benefits that softened water can have on your home and wallet.
13 GIU 2024 · In this episode, the term "Potability" and its use in different contexts is explored. The term “potable” can have many different definitions depending on the jurisdiction which is governing the quality of water. Public perception of water when it is deemed potable, is generally that it is safe to use and consume. Jurisdictions do not claim that water is free from all contaminants when classified as potable. Public perceptions are commonly in line with the particular jurisdiction which regulates the water for specific contaminants with varying degrees of understanding about the overall water quality.
13 GIU 2024 · When buying a home water in the country, water quality and volume should be two of the most critical considerations. In most real estate transactions, Public Health Units generally provide testing for the presence of the bacterial indicators of contamination in private drinking water. Currently, there are no requirements or legislation for who is taking a real estate water sample. Water should be given more consideration in rural real estate transactions. Many people do not retest the water after the purchase is complete, as they are busy with the euphoria that comes along with the new acquisition of the property.
13 GIU 2024 · Have you ever considered the usage of water in your home? This episode discusses how water is used and why not all water is considered "drinking water". The majority of water usage in a home goes down the drain and is not consumed. The quality of water you flush down your toilet does not need to be the same as the water you use to make your coffee every morning. Drinking Water should be “potable” and “purified” meaning that it is treated to a level suitable for human consumption according to provincial and Canadian regulations.
13 GIU 2024 · When not connected to a municipally fed water supply, you are solely responsible for the quality of water flowing from your tap. If you reside in the country do not assume the quality of your water by the way it tastes, smells or looks. Most contaminants are dissolved in water and do not have an odour. A water source plays an important role in determining the water quality. There is no requirement for ANY water quality sampling to be conducted, without proper testing, it is not possible to know the level of water contamination. Most people are completely unaware of the risks as it is not common public practice. Water Quality changes with seasons, precipitation, human activities and other contributing factors.
13 GIU 2024 · Water is the Universal Solvent. It picks up a bit of everything it encounters. It is difficult to know what comes into contact with water as it travels over the surface, through the ground and in the air as precipitation. Without proper testing, it is not possible to know the level of water contamination. Are there specific requirements for what type of contaminants are tested for? Most contaminants are invisible and dissolved in water often going undetected ie: Total dissolved solids (TDS), PFAS, Lead, Arsenic, Nitrates, Chemicals, Fertilizers and Pesticides. Testing for some of these contaminants is not easily accessible by the public. Some water treatment equipment has operating water quality parameters which if not met, can impact the quality of drinking water. Rural areas are not subject to the regulations for water the same as cities. When you own a property in the country, you are solely responsible for your own water quality in your home.
