The Boy in the Box, the Golden State Killer & Bear Brook — Three Cold Cases Solved by a Cousin's DNA
27 SET 2026 · Three cold cases. Three ordinary objects — a car door handle, a steel barrel, a cardboard box — that waited decades to tell the truth. Then one new science asked them a single question: who touched you?
CASE 1 — THE GOLDEN STATE KILLER (California, 1976–2018). Forty years of silence, then detectives swab a car door handle in a craft-store parking lot.
CASE 2 — BEAR BROOK (New Hampshire, 1985–2019). A hunter kicks open a barrel in the woods. Four victims, one man who lived under other people's names.
CASE 3 — THE BOY IN THE BOX (Philadelphia, 1957–2022). A child found in a box stamped "Fragile". It took 65 years, 9 months and 13 days to say his name: Joseph Augustus Zarelli.
