Starting in 1998, Filippa embarked on a radio journey, working for Southern Cross Austereo with the Triple M Community Switchboard. She quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the original Gig Piglet, reporting on music news three times a day during the week. But it was in the world of motorsport where Filippa found her true calling. Her love for motor racing was nurtured from a young age, growing up in a family that adored Holdens and avidly watched the Bathurst 1000. Throughout her illustrious career, Filippa has worn many hats, from writer to pit reporter, TV producer and editor, and media and social media manager. Notably, she was the first to hold a social media manager role in Australian motorsport over a decade ago. Her work has taken her across Australia and the world, from Dubai to South Africa and the United States. Now, after 25 years, Filippa has come full circle, passing on her knowledge to the next generation of drivers as a Media Master Coach. 11 GEN 2024 · In this podcast episode, we continue our exploration of athletes who have transitioned into motorsport careers with one of Australia's most successful surf lifesavers, Guy Andrews. During the 1990s, surf lifesaving experienced a tremendous boom with the establishment of the Uncle Tobys Super Series, a professional competition that gained widespread popularity. Despite facing resistance from the governing body, a group of ironman competitors, including Guy Andrews, broke away to create the Super Series. The rebellion paid off as the series became a huge success, with live coverage on Network Ten and household names emerging from the sport. For Andrews, the exposure and success in the Super Series paved the way for his entry into motorsport, fulfilling his longtime passion. Inspired by watching legends at tracks like Lakeside and Surfers Paradise, he ventured into racing with the guidance of two-time Bathurst 1000 winner Tony Longhurst. From participating in the Bathurst 3 Hour race to racing V8 Utes and MINI Challenge, Andrews has had an exciting career in motorsport. Moreover, he has also pursued stunt driving, working on notable productions like Mad Max Fury Road. Andrews continues to balance his involvement in surf lifesaving, coaching, and competing in the masters category, while also enjoying track days and time attack events with his Hyundai i30N. More recently, he's now added driving coach to his CV, working with the experienced Paul Morris at the Norwell Motorplex.
