I am the spook by the door. But not like the spook in Ralph Ellison's, "The Invisible Man." I am not even the spook you're used to seeing wearing white sheets nor am I haunting. I am more like your caricature version of me white fear created with big bulging glow in the dark eyes that allows the world to see my ignorance but not my rage. I am also bilingual— a code-switcher. I speak Ebonics when necessary, but only with menacing eyes and a what-the f**k-you-looking at-attitude. Still, I prefer the queen's English, (with a watermelon-size smile) which betrays my dignity while preserving yours. I am a spook no less. Not because you can't see me, but because you refuse to hear me.
