13 FEB 2025 · Finding Collaborative Opportunities in Marketing with Collateral Professionals Also Connected to Your Legal Practice Area of Business Profession
February is a great planning month, and this Power5 episode on the Texas Law Talk Radio network is all about collaboration in marketing with the people who send referrals, and those who know, like, and trust you.
It is easy to get into a content rut, talking about the same things over and over, so it seems. It’s always a good idea to think out of the box and make a list of other professionals you can invite to the conversation. There are so many great reasons to earn your backlinks by doing collaborative marketing work and sharing the spotlight with the other colleagues you respect.
The Impact of Collaborative Efforts in Marketing
When we partner up with others we seem to be best when it comes to performance and communicating our messages. Talking about collaborative relationships in law and business shows people what happens behind the scenes in different scenarios. Take family law for example, we hear there are other professionals involved in financial, real estate, and child custody determinations, but who are those people?
I work with busy attorneys and help set up those collaborative content creation events and make sure everyone puts on a great performance and shares valuable information that helps generate referral business.
Authenticity Presumed When Teaming Up for Content
The team setting works well to cross-promote instead of being the sole star of the program and the content. This is comforting to professionals who enjoy engaging with others about the types of issues with which they work in their professions and the people they serve.
Benefits of Collaboration in Marketing with Referral Generating Content
When we put together a podcast, video, or written article, we have content with links to everyone’s websites and that is great SEO activity, the gold standard, and what Google loves. When I work with people, I put everything together to make everyone look good and share those links so we can all share in our respective marketing networks. Teamwork makes the dream work.
Building Great Content Marketing Habits with Colleagues
Don’t just do these collaborative marketing activities as one-offs, do them twice a year, or quarterly. Do them with a variety of people whose names you give as referrals. It can be something people look forward to and enjoy putting in their newsletter, their LinkedIn, or YouTube, and everywhere else they feed the search engines with great content.
30 GEN 2025 · SEO Explained by a DNA Concept and a Spiderweb of Interconnected Website Links
On this episode of Power 5 on the Texas Law Talk Radio network, Nick Augustine teaches us how to protect our website and SEO DNA.
The goal of SEO is for the search engine robots to understand what you offer and display you in maps and search results.
- The search engine robots know the DNA and mapping of your link system. The robots know your website domain and have read your site.
- They come back to read the new content you post on your blog.
- They know every social media site that has a link to your website.
- The search engine robots know when your website shows up in people's comments when they make a referral.
- The robots know when your website is scrubbed by other robots to be used in all kinds of data.
The Paths of SEO Robots Map Your Website Link System and Digital DNA
All of these elements are a combined spiderweb of signals that evaluate the value of your website and how worthy it is to show up in search engine results. What hurts your SEO DNA is anything that confuses the search engine robots.
Mixing different subjects that don't make sense together confuses the search engine robots so they don't know what to do with your website. If they sense your site is connected to a bunch of links in paid backlink farms, they might believe your site is part of data farming and not intended for real people searching for your type of content.
SEO Safety and Best Practices to Protect Your Website and Digital Assets and Reputation
The best way to preserve good SEO DNA is to keep your website safe, keep it organically curated by intelligent humans, and keep feeding the search engine robots frequent, relevant, and original content, on your website and every digital platform and asset you own, that links to your website.

23 GEN 2025 · People Need to Know You On-Screen and Off-Screen
Too many of us make the mistake of relying solely on digital marketing and that is not good enough. When you know people in the real world they can relate to you and know you digitally as well. I know that seems overwhelmingly obvious, but I have talked to too many lawyers and business owners who seem to think all they have to do is throw money at digital marketing and wait for the business.

Here’s the missing piece, the public has no interest in relating with people they don’t know. So find a way to know some people and get involved in your community. You don’t have to join every club on the planet, but you should visit, speak, and be a guest at many. To earn your reputation.
Public Events and Networking in Your Community
Do attend public events. Don’t take sides and get sucked up into drama. Being part of groups that aren’t widely open to all is limiting and sets you apart from the general public. Do your affiliations determine who you are and how you’re perceived? Absolutely.
However, there are endless events in which you can be a meaningful promoter and support system. Think about sporting events your kids or neighbors are tied to. Go sponsor the t-shirts for the local Little League team. There are so many ways to earn name and brand recognition that don’t involve technology.
Paper Pushing: Mailers and Print Ads in Newspapers
For a fraction of the cost of ad word campaigns, you could have been sending affordable postcard mailers or buying affordable print advertising in local publications people read. Examples include the local lifestyle magazine in our mailbox - go buy ad space because people who care about who’s who are reading those publications.
Did I mention mailers enough times yet? It doesn’t have to be a problem with your regulatory agency if that’s your concern. Know the rules and do what you can to show up with happy valuable content in your neighborhood mailboxes. You don’t have to hit every house in town, you can pick and choose on data the mailing companies use. At least consider it and tell me you like it.
TV and Radio Ads to Direct Traffic to Your Website
The television and radio stations must be living on air these days because everyone moved their ad budgets to digital spending. Have you given Facebook enough money yet? Maybe give some to local TV or radio stations that may have some surprising rates that are more affordable than you think. When you get excited about audio and visual content come back and talk to me about doing podcasts and videos. It’s good practice to craft your best messaging and then you go buy commercial space on TV and radio.
Being Creative and Making Your Strategy Unique
The most underwhelming part of my existence as Texas’ best digital marketing professional is watching all these people try to copy one another like the other one somehow has a lock on what’s good and what works. Be your own self and drive your own content strategy based on the things that make you and your brand different from everyone else.
You can’t do this stuff wrong unless you just don’t do anything and just pay money to one of those big digital companies from whom you lease a website you don’t even own.
Be better in 2025. For digital and offline advertising, branding, and marketing strategy, come to me for professional guidance and representation in making yourself appealing and available.
16 GEN 2025 · Attorney Cherika Edwards is Our Guest to Talk About Enforcement and Modification Cases
All over Texas, there are families working together and co-parents raising kids and keeping everyone on the path to success. Along the way, and after divorce and custody cases, the final orders might not be working anymore like they used to. New people can enter the situation and things change.

If you want to go to court to modify or enforce an order, those are new cases, filed and served along with the regular court process. Is it necessary to get a new case filed? What are our options? Listen to this family law enforcement and modification podcast to learn more about how Texas Courts work when your court orders no longer do.

13 GEN 2025 · Google Owns YouTube
It makes logical sense to create content for YouTube to promote your law firm or small business because Google owns YouTube, and your goal should be to get found on Google. Do you need to spend a bunch of money to maximize your effectiveness in YouTube marketing? In my professional opinion, you don’t need to spend any more than you do with other social media platforms to make Google happy.
While I cannot prove that there is any additional boost to the people who have paid accounts, it does make sense that it would help the search engine robots to know who is a reputable business. I always recommend going with the paid version of things and when you can, just start with the first tier.
YouTube is a Major Search Engine
People go to YouTube to learn how to change a tire as well as how to find deals on tires. If you’ve heard people talking about searching for answers on social media, that is a very real activity. On TikTok alone, the search volume is significant and people get lots of their information directly from social platforms including YouTube, first, and before they search on Google.
Because YouTube is indexed for searchability purposes it’s important to create your descriptive content and use all your technical SEO tools when publishing videos on YouTube.
Short Form and Long Content Videos
While I don’t think TikTok is going anywhere, many content creators say they are going to YouTube to find their followers and they are smart, because parking their content on YouTube is a great idea and easy way for people to find them and their short form and longer videos.
The short-form content refers to temporary stories you are likely used to seeing on Meta properties like Facebook and Instagram. YouTube also has a short form section where temporary 24-hour content can be shared without clogging up your YouTube channel where you keep permanently posted videos. An example of long-form content would be a 15 to 30-minute podcast, and podcasts are easy to turn into YouTube videos by adding a static cover image graphic people can view. At the same time, the audio plays in the background of the YouTube video.
Advertising and Sponsored Videos
Anyone used to boosting posts on Facebook or handling ad spending campaigns on Meta can do the same in the YouTube console and dashboard where you can increase your reach by creating sponsored videos searchable by new people. This does not need to be a major financial commitment, the budget can be consistent with your comfort level.
If in the past you passed on YouTube or similar ad spending campaigns, you might want to reconsider them with the advantage of the latest digital technology and algorithms operating in the background which make YouTube a significant advertising contender.
Content Creation and Flexible Strategy
Every social media platform is unique and users have expectations of social media based on experience. It’s a good idea to always ask yourself, “Is this the type of thing people are looking for on YouTube?” As it turns out, there isn’t much out there that is not found on YouTube, and so long as the content is captioned well, categorized, and assembled using the proper content guidelines, it will be easy for people to find your videos.
Being Flexible with social media and content strategy is important because the Internet, social media platforms, and user experiences and expectations are constantly evolving to improve everyone’s experience.
20 DIC 2024 · This is Nick Augustine here with Scott Davis from Local IQ and today we are explaining On-Page SEO, Off-Page SEO, and Technical SEO on the Texas Law Talk Radio network.
Learn how search engines work and why both on-page, off-page, and technical SEO work is necessary to appear in search results and maps.
This part of digital marketing gets confusing and people may not know what they are paying for and how to determine what works. Scott and I will break it down and hope you learn enough to better understand and manage your digital marketing.
Episode Roadmap:
- What Google uses to rank websites and display them in search results
- Everyone says they do SEO but what does that actually mean?
- Examples of On-Page SEO (content, individual web pages)
- Examples of Off-Page SEO (backlinks, listings, off-website efforts)
- Technical SEO and how it works in connection with other SEO work
- Auditing websites for SEO health, broken links, and indexing issues
- Avoiding gimmicks and tricks showing traffic from misleading sources
- The range of work and typical fees; how much do we need?
For nearly 20 years law firms and small businesses have been paying for SEO without really understanding what they were getting and how it all works. If you don’t understand what the expectations are, how do you determine if you’re getting value for your budget?
In advertising and branding basics, it is understood that it takes time and repetition for people to know who you are, and that applies to people as well as search engine robots. Likewise, people talk to one another and ask what the other is doing for marketing and are they paying for SEO. They all agree it’s great and they’ve been told they need it. Then the one asks the other, does it work? They both shake their heads.
To know you are getting results, you have to know what you should expect. If you don’t understand what a vendor is telling you, get help understanding. Many are surprised they do not have to spend as much time and money as others may think to make a meaningful impact in your marketing.
Meanwhile, as everyone is focused on technical SEO and website performance ranking, the best SEO delivers real content of value to the humans who do business with you, so let that always be a primary focus and when you treat your digital marketing like a regular event you’d attend and network, the people know you over time and trust to do business with you or give your name and website link when others ask for referrals.

12 DIC 2024 · On this episode of Power5, it’s time to get serious about the risks of using generative AI content in your legal marketing. I used it myself because I needed to test things out and see what’s really happening and whether it has value. I even applied for and was hired to a contract position with an AI tech firm in Southlake earlier this year to learn more about AI and its applications.
With 20 years of experience in digital marketing for law firms and small businesses, I have been an expert in content marketing for a long time and have watched technologies and trends come and go. I used to have to learn SEO manually and was taught digital writing for keywords and search engines when I was a writer for major legal publications when I was just getting started, just a few years out of law school.
Here are my topics for today’s episode of Power5 on the Texas Law Talk Radio network:
- Google Rewards Hard Work
- Schools and Courts Check for AI Writing
- AI Output Can Be Wrong and Get You in Trouble with the Bar
- SPAM and Bot Concerns Many Marketing Firms won't Mention
- People Tend to Skim or Ignore AI Written Content
I hope everyone makes educated decisions about their marketing plans for 2025. Ask questions. If you don’t get answers you understand, you might be getting screwed. Dont’ get screwed. Get smart about content and learn about generative AI before you determine if you’re comfortable with it being used in your content. Your website may be at risk of being devalued by the search engines if it thinks you are SPAM.
