  • CHILD ABUSE; Mental Health Implications

7 OTT 2021 · Featuring FEYISAYO ADEBAYO-SANNI on CHILD ABUSE MENTAL HEALTH SHOW WITH JAMES OSUNTOOGUN (MC JERRYJAY) Child abuse is any mistreatment or neglect that causes harm to a child 18 years old or younger. This can include sexual, emotional, and physical abuse, as well as neglect. The mistreatment is caused by an adult, often one with a role of responsibility in the child’s life. The person responsible for the abuse may be a parent or family member. It can also be someone acting as a caregiver or with authority in the child's life, including a coach, teacher, or religious leader. The immediate emotional effects of abuse and neglect—isolation, fear, and an inability to trust—can translate into lifelong consequences, including low self-esteem, depression, and relationship difficulties, as well as increased risk for developing an addiction to drugs and alcohol. #daringgreatly, #everythingisfigureoutable, #heartcentered, #mcjerryjay, #mentalhealthawareness, #osuntoogunjames, #personalgrowthpodcast, #selfcare, #selfcarejourney, #selfcarematters, #shiftyourmindset,

  • DOWN SYNDROME

16 SET 2021 · Down syndrome a congenital condition characterized by a distinctive pattern of physical characteristics including a flattened skull, pronounced folds of skin in the inner corners of the eyes, large tongue, and short stature, and by some degree of limitation of intellectual ability and social and practical skills. It usually arises from a defect involving chromosome 21, usually an extra copy (trisomy-21). The parents of the affected individual are usually genetically normal. The probability increases from less than 0.1% in 20-year-old mothers to 3% in those of age 45. The extra chromosome is believed to occur by chance, with no known behavioral activity or environmental factor that changes the probability. Down syndrome can be identified during pregnancy by prenatal screening followed by diagnostic testing or after birth by direct observation and genetic testing. Since the introduction of screening, Down syndrome pregnancies are often aborted. There is no cure for Down syndrome. Education and proper care have been shown to improve quality of life. Some children with Down syndrome are educated in typical school classes, while others require more specialized education

  • BIPOLAR DISORDER PART 2

8 SET 2021 · BIPOLAR DISORDERS with Dr Tosin Lawal (Mental Health and Behavioural Medicine, Federal Medical Center, Abeokuta, Nigeria) on Mental Health Show with James Oluwasegun Osuntoogun (MC JERRYJAY). Bipolar disorder, formerly called manic depression, is a mental health condition that causes extreme mood swings that include emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression). When you become depressed, you may feel sad or hopeless and lose interest or pleasure in most activities. When your mood shifts to mania or hypomania (less extreme than mania), you may feel euphoric, full of energy or unusually irritable. These mood swings can affect sleep, energy, activity, judgment, behaviour and the ability to think clearly. Episodes of mood swings may occur rarely or multiple times a year. While most people will experience some emotional symptoms between episodes, some may not experience any. Although bipolar disorder is a lifelong condition, you can manage your mood swings and other symptoms by following a treatment plan. In most cases, bipolar disorder is treated with medications and psychological counseling (psychotherapy).
