5 FEB 2021 · Today’s conversation is with former St. George’s High School basketball standout and 2019 Delaware High School Player of the year Nah’Shon “Bones” Hyland, whose childhood nickname has now traveled with him to Richmond, Virginia, where he is a sophomore star on the Virginia Commonwealth University basketball team that competes in the Atlantic 10 Conference. I was fortunate to have a front row seat for many of his games as the play by play announcer for Fox Sports 1290, including a few 50-point performances and all four of his appearances in the state tournament semifinal games. But Bones’ story is about more than just the game he loves and the success he has had playing it. A family tragedy shortly after the end of his junior season in high school permanently changed the budding superstar’s outlook on family, the sport of basketball, and life.
