Les Martin, Senior Designer at John Nicholls Banbury has been designing kitchens for 38 years and spoke with Simon Acres, Principal Director at Acres Consultancy about the changes he has seen during his career and what it takes to be successful.“Success is about absolute honesty,” says Les. “It is so important to listen to clients and provide them with a design that reflects their own style and budget, then the sale will follow.“I have always believed that if you offer a good service, clients will not only recommend you to others but will come back to you. This is illustrated by one of my customers that has bought seven kitchens from me over the last forty years!”Having the skills to understand and produce a hand drawn plan, is a skill that Les believes, all designers should have. He says, “Computer generated designs have their place but a designer can gain a greater connection by designing in the traditional way.”
