12 SET 2025 · In this episode of "Delivering Development," Kevin and Laura discuss implicit and explicit knowledge in language acquisition. Laura shares insights from her study on implicit instruction and its effectiveness in developing implicit knowledge of target language structures. The conversation explores Laura's experimental intervention, which utilized "input flooding" and varied instructional modes to foster subconscious learning of complex grammatical forms. The discussion also touches upon the teacher's role in facilitating implicit learning.
11 GIU 2025 · Kevin and Laura focus on the evolving impact of Artificial Intelligence on language teaching and assessment, exploring both the opportunities and challenges it presents for educators and students. The discussions highlight how AI can be a tool for efficiency (e.g., generating feedback), but also raise concerns about critical thinking, academic integrity, and adapting traditional teaching and assessment methods to a rapidly changing technological landscape. Ultimately, the podcasts emphasize the necessity for language teachers to understand and adapt to AI's presence in education to ensure continued professional relevance and effective student learning.
6 MAG 2025 · Join Kevin, Laura and Neil as they continue their series of podcasts about language teaching in the context of Artificial Intelligence, this time looking at general issues and also tackling the crucial topic of what AI means for assessment in language teaching! We're in a fascinating time of transition, and the conversation explores the challenges and opportunities AI presents. How do we navigate AI's impact on generating content for assessments? What are some potential negatives around integrating AI?
3 APR 2025 · In part two of their series on AI's impact on language teaching, Kevin, Laura and Neil focus on using AI to do things that weren't possible before, rather than doing the same things using AI. The episode ends with a compelling student success story. Plus, thoughts on educational policy and the unique role of language teachers in the age of AI.
17 FEB 2025 · In Episode 29 of the Delivering Development Podcast, Kevin, Laura and Neil give a general overview of the impact of AI on language teaching. We also discuss in general terms how educators can adapt their teaching methods during this transitional period to ensure students still get the most out of their learning. This includes a few examples of integrating AI as a learning tool while recognizing its limitations. Is AI a 'bad friend' offering dodgy advice? The next episode will look in more detail at what educators can do to adapt.
23 OTT 2024 · In this episode, Kevin, Laura and Neil start with a discussion about flipped learning and then move on to some of the fundamentals of how to approach blended learning design. In a shock move, Kevin, Laura and Neil also agreed on something.
5 GIU 2024 · The 27th episode of Delivering Development, our podcast on continuing professional development for language teachers and administrators, takes an initial, high-level, look at AI and its impact on the languages field.
15 MAG 2024 · In this edition we continued with a discussion of some terms relating to blended learning, in a possibly vain attempt to gain some clearer idea of what some of the terms mean and, indeed, whether they are useful or just confuse the issue.
7 NOV 2023 · Earlier this year I was interviewed by Ruth Pringle as part of her project to match learners to teachers in a very targeted way. I liked the idea, but particularly liked the way we got talking about language professionals working together and helping each other rather than competing against each other. So, I asked her to come along to our podcast so we could talk more about it.
18 AGO 2023 · Today, the plan was to look at some of the terminology around blended learning. We did a decent job on “flipped learning”, I think, but that was all we had time for! We did cover some interesting ground on the nature of blended learning as well though.
