19 MAG 2025 · In this informative discussion, Andy Taylor talks with Debbie Kenyon, President of the Green Valley Council about several key issues and upcoming initiatives in the Green Valley area:
1. Fire Safety and HOA Recognition
- Debbie highlighted the growing fire safety concerns due to wildfires like the one in Greer, Arizona.
- Supervisor Steve Christy’s fire safety initiative was discussed, with special recognition given to 11 Pima County HOAs recently certified as “Firewise”—8 of which were from Green Valley.
2. UniSource/TEP Power Line Project
- A public input session is scheduled for the next day 05/20/2025 (9 AM at Las Campanas Social Center) to review UniSource/TEP’s proposed routes for a new power line.
- The project aims to improve power redundancy for Santa Cruz County and is part of long-term energy infrastructure planning.
- Concerns include visual impact, environmental considerations, and property proximity.
3. Monsoon Preparedness – “Monsoon Madness” (June 5)
- Debbie previewed the annual Monsoon Preparedness Forum, covering flood risks, emergency alerts, and safety planning.
- Agencies participating include NOAA, Pima County Emergency Management, Santa Rita Fire District, Regional Flood Control, Trico, TEP, SAV, Northwest Hospital, and more.
- The event will feature live presentations and an emergency preparedness expo, including information on go-bags, pet safety, and how to prepare for extended power outages.
4. Pima Council on Aging (PCOA) Office Hours
- Starting June 4, PCOA will hold regular hours at the Green Valley Council offices (1st–4th Wednesdays, 9:30 AM–12:30 PM), offering resources and support to help older residents age in place with dignity.
5. Summer Planning and Community Engagement
- Most committees will pause for the summer, except the executive team.
- Community members are encouraged to suggest topics or forums they'd like to see addressed in the upcoming season (Sept 2025–May 2026).
- Final board meeting before summer break is scheduled for Thursday.

The Call for Volunteers grows during the Summer Months as the Winter Visitors/residents trek to other locations.
We also learn of the assistance programs to many which could help in many diiferent situations from Rent Payments to utilities. Support groups are also a great service offered and Chris tells us about these as well as the Upcoming Health Fair and Fashion Show in July
