13 DIC 2022 · Identifying just how revolutionary a new technology might be is always easier with hindsight. The telegraph, radio, television — all great iterations on a technology looking to improve man's ability to communicate and all revolutionary in their own eras. But none of those improvements feel quite as revolutionary as the dawn of the Internet. The Internet opened up information for anyone and everyone at scale. And despite the best attempts from gatekeepers, it remained open in its access for all. In a very similar sense, that same revolution is playing out again as blockchain technology enables crypto and its users to power a completely open and permissionless system of money for the first time. But fitting a new system in with old rules means crypto might have to compromise. In Coinage Episode 6, we chat with crypto pioneer Erik Voorhees about where the line should be drawn in the revolution.

Just ask Meta née Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who loves the metaverse so much he not only renamed his company after it, but is continuing to spend billions of dollars trying to make sure we all live there. And he's not alone. In fact, it's not just Meta's Horizon Worlds we have to consider for a story on the metaverse, but also Decentraland, the Sandbox, Nvidia's Omniverse, and even original pioneers like VR Chat and Second Life (oh and games like Roblox and Fortnite.) TLDR; it's a crowded space. But why? Why are there so many people building the metaverse? And what's even the point? This week on Coinage, we decided we needed to dive in ourselves — but not just to explore. Instead, we dove deep into Decentraland with a purpose. We wanted to make some money.

22 NOV 2022 · The crypto industry is one that was built around Bitcoin — an alternative form of money founded to refute the failures of the traditional financial system. In fact, Bitcoin’s genesis block includes the text of the New York Times headline seen as the precipice of the bailout era: “Chancellor on Brink of Second Bailout for Banks.” It’s as if Bitcoin’s founder was speaking directly to the old banking system to say, “We see your transgressions, and we are coming for you.” The irony, therefore, that crypto itself could come to repeat the very same mistakes the old system committed in the 2008 financial crisis is not lost on us. But how did we get here? And, can crypto survive without a savior?

Most of the time, it's at the craps table or roulette wheel — both games where the whole gang can beat the house together. Very easily, one can feel like they are part of a community. When it comes to crypto, a world often compared almost daily to gambling at the casino, it might be easy to overlook the sense of community that many in the space claim is part of why they stick around. Bitcoin, after all, has experienced more than a few 80% collapses, and yet it still captures the attention of the globe. In this week's episode of Coinage, we take a look a closer look at what community in crypto is all about by inserting ourselves into an event held by one of crypto's once most-used NFT projects and one of the first to offer its holders gaming utility. The NFT game, Zed Run, lets users buy and breed digital horses to race at the digital track. So we headed to a ZedRun community race in New York City to see for ourselves.

Apple didn't launch the iPhone with the App store already chock-full of all our favorites today, but instead unleashed the power of its product by attracting some of the world's best developers to build on top of it. In a way, that's exactly what Ethereum has set out to do in building crypto's utopia: The idea of what a decentralized society could be.

We investigated the case study of Solana — what are its benefits and drawbacks compared to Ethereum? We interviewed the co-founder of Solana Anatoly Yakovenko, about Solana’s reputation as an “Ethereum-killer,” what it’s bringing to the table in terms of unique features, and the current status of Web3 adoption among the public.
