  • S2,E3: Danny Burgos calls 'Moulin Rouge! The Musical' a 'feast for the senses'

2 APR 2024 · In this "By All Means" podcast, veteran journalist and host John Gonzalez interviews Danny Burgos, who plays Santiago in the first National Tour of "Moulin Rouge," the 2001 Baz Luhrmann film turned into an award-winning musical. The multi-sensory show, as fans know, is a celebration of truth, beauty, freedom and — above all — love. The 2019 Broadway musical was nominated for 14 Tony awards and won 10, including best musical, choreography, direction and design. Today the tour has been updated with new songs, but still maintains all of the familiar classic songs. Burgos, a native of Florida, talks about his personal journey from a nursing degree to stage, and why he loves this show so much. "I call ('Moulin Rouge') a feast for the senses," Burgos said in the interview. "There is always something to be looking at and listening to. Everyone on the stage is submerged in this world that is full of sensory overload. It's cool for the audiences." He said even those who may not be musical fans will know all the songs. "You don't have to be a musical theater afficianado to come and enjoy it. You have to come with an open mind, open heart and have a good night listeing to some great music (with) a fun story." "Moulin Rouge! - The Musical" will play from https://www.whartoncenter.com/events/detail/moulin-rouge in East Lansing. It returns to Michigan from https://broadwaygrandrapids.com/moulin-rouge.
