In this piyyut said whenever selichot are recited we ask G-d to answer our prayers just as he
answered the prayers of our Biblical ancestors from Avraham to Mordechai and Esther.
Fascinatingly, for many of those mentioned there is no indication in the text that they actually
prayed.
מִי שֶׁעָנָה לְאַבְרָהָם אָבִֽינוּ בְּהַר הַמּוֹרִיָּה הוּא יַעֲנֵֽנוּ:

came into being, the poet urges us to take advantage of this special time when our prayers for
forgiveness are more readily accepted.

11 SET 2026 · In this selicha for the eve of Rosh Hashanah we confront the inevitability of death, yet through prayer and tzedakah, we can be amongst the righteous who even in death live on.
אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ וֵאלֹהֵי אֲבוֹתֵֽינוּ
אָדָם אֵיךְ יִזְכֶּה. בְּכָל יוֹם לַמָּוֶת מְחַכֶּה: בָּשָֹר מַה יְדַבֵּר. וְהוּא מוּבָל לַקֶּבֶר:
גֶּוְיוֹ לַבּוֹר נוֹפֵל. לִמְקוֹם חֹשֶׁךְ וְאֹפֶל: דִּמְיוֹנוֹ לַהֶבֶל דָּמָה. וְגַם נִמְשַׁל כַּבְּהֵמָה נִדְמָה:
הֲלֹא כָל יָמָיו מְעַט וְרָעִים. וְכָל מַעֲשָֹיו עֲוֹנוֹת וּפְשָׁעִים: וּבִלְבָבוֹ יָבִין וָשָׁב. וְרָפָא לוֹ לְקוֹלוֹ כְּיֻקְשַׁב:
