7 SET 2026 · Phil Hansen is part of every North Dakota Mount Rushmore conversation we have. He's on the Buffalo Bills Wall of Fame with only 29 others. He still ranks third all time on the Bills sacks list, and was a key part of the team's run to four straight Super Bowls (Phil played in three). He also helped the NDSU Bison win two National Championships (1988, 1990), and was drafted in the second round of the 1991 NFL Draft.
We talk to Phil about all that stuff, and start the conversation about the current NDSU Bison and the jump to FBS football.

We reminisce a little about what we'd do if we went back to college (you know, like a few NFL players found a way to do this past week) and check in on some other North Dakotans in the big leagues of their sports.

30 LUG 2026 · NFL Training Camp is here - and believe it or not, 5, count them FIVE, consecutive NDSU Bison QBs are on NFL rosters. We talk about how unbelievable that truly is.
There are plenty of other North Dakotans on NFL rosters, lots of linemen, a couple of receivers, and a fullback - all worth watching as the NFL season approaches.
We also talk about one of those wonderful surprises when we hear from listeners. This surprise brings us some photos and press clippings about Satchel Paige and his time in Bismarck. I'm too dumb at the moment to figure out how to share them publicly (we're working on a website) - so if you want to see them, send us a note at 70wonsportscast@gmail.com and I'll send you the photos of the photos. They really are pretty darn cool.

16 LUG 2026 · We're still on a high from our interview with Utah State Head Basketball Coach, Ben Jacobson - and we're wearing Aggies hats to prove it. When we get on to what else is on our mind we dive into the Major League Baseball draft (because ND was represented!), this punishing heat wave, North Dakotans playing some NBA Summer League, and a pile of other good stuff.

30 GIU 2026 · Ben Jacobson won Mr. Basketball in North Dakota in 1989 (he reminds us he shared it with Chris Gardner, who joined him on the UND squad the following year), coached as an assistant at UND and NDSU (a move we chuckle over for a few minutes), then at the University of Northern Iowa where he was promoted to head coach in 2006. Five trips to the NCAA Tourney, an upset over a #1 overall seed, and a 20-year run landed him his next opportunity. Now, head coach at Utah State University, a school moving to the Pac12 this year, he's looking at what's next for himself, his players, and his new basketball program.
We spend about 40 minutes with Coach Jacobson talking hoops, reminiscing about his time at UND, UNI, and some of his memories growing up in Bismarck, Fargo, and Mayville.
His stories about how awesome the NCAA Tournament is - and those thrilling moments when he found out his team(s) made it - highlight this awesome conversation.

Satchel Paige and Bismarck's Fascinating Amateur Baseball History - Interview with Author Tom Dunkel
28 MAG 2026 · Tom Dunkel wrote the book Color Blind: The Forgotten Team That Broke Baseball's Color Line. It's a fascinating and fun history of amateur baseball in North Dakota, primarily surrounding the team from Bismarck. Operated by long time Bismarck businessman Neill Churchill, and anchored by the arm of the one and only Satchel Paige, integrated races and lifestyles to go on a national championship run that helped pave the way for integrated baseball across the country.
We talk with Tom for a little over an hour about what inspired him to write this book, how it came together, and what he learned along the way.
