Over the last 30 years, Native Americans and other groups have protested the celebration of Columbus arriving in America, a historical moment that actually sparked the colonization of the Americas, the start of the transatlantic slave trade and the deaths of millions from European settlers bringing a host of infectious diseases that decimated indigenous populations and the Warfare between Native Americans and European colonists

With both Thanksgiving and Native American Heritage Day coming up this week, we have to ask the question... Should we celebrate holidays that marked a horrific time in Native American History? And how do we bring more awareness to Native American Heritage Day?
