Herb Baumeister, a wealthy Indianapolis businessman, is believed to be responsible for the deaths of numerous men, mostly from the city's gay community, in the 1990s. His crimes went largely unreported in mainstream media at the time, despite efforts by local LGBTQ+ publications to expose the disappearances. Recently, renewed interest in the case, spurred by a podcast and film, has led to the reopening of the investigation and the identification of some victims. The current focus raises concerns about the potential for exploitation and the importance of treating the victims and their families with respect. Efforts are underway to identify thousands of remaining bone fragments found at Baumeister's estate.
