Our text for today is a prayer that Paul offers up for his friends, the Philippian church. For many people, when it comes to teaching or preaching the Bible, especially prayers like in our text, the application can quickly become something like, "be more like Paul" or "pray more like Paul". Well, I don't know how to tell you this, but you're not Paul (unless your name is Paul, in which case you're not the Paul who wrote Philippians).
However, that doesn't mean you can't take ANYTHING from his prayers, and Philippians 1: 1-11 is no different. What are the core values behind what Paul is communicating to the Philippians? And what do those core values have to do with us? As you'll see, Paul's core values in our text center around not just friendship, but TRUE friendship, and what it means to have true friendship.
