Episode one of the Tony Kemp podcast is here! Every Monday during the 2024 NRL season, Kemp - the former Warriors coach and Kiwis representative - is joined by Martin Devlin, renowned sports broacaster and now host of It's Only Sport on The Platform, to recap all the main talking points in rugby league's biggest club competition.
This week to kick things off, Kempy and Marty go through the weekend round-up where they cover off the main talking points across the opening eight matches, which saw a number of sides who missed the finals in 2023 - such as the Manly Sea Eagles and North Queensland Cowboys - notch wins. Then it's Up the Wahs, where the pair dedicate an extended period of time talking Warriors. It's already a loaded segment after the first week of the season as the Warriors suffered a surprise 16-12 defeat at home to the Cronulla Sharks - does that result suggest the club could struggle to make the top four? Did coach Andrew Webster get some selections wrong? Following that, former Bronco, Warrior and Queensland representative Kevin Campion is the special guest on He's a Ledge!
Kempy and Marty go head-to-head debating a handful of topics, including whether or not the Melbourne Storm's 8-0 win over the Penrith Panthers was a bad advertisement for rugby league, and if the St. George-Illawarra Dragons should be seen as a top eight side after their week one win over the Gold Coast Titans. Kempy hands out the clean-up award for the player, coach or team who did their job better than anyone else - someone who rolled up the sleeves and turned gunk into gold. And to wrap things up, Kempy lists his five best teams in the competition right now on TK's Top Five.
