THIS THING IS JUST A DISTRACTION!!!
Today I’ve been thinking about how easily we can lose sight of what God has called us to do. Sometimes the distraction is a situation that takes up all our thoughts. Sometimes it is the pressure to keep explaining ourselves to people around us. And sometimes it is a relationship we keep trying to carry into a season where it no longer belongs. When our attention stays fixed on who is with us, who left us, or who disappointed us, we can miss the work God has placed right in front of us.Jesus’ choice of the twelve disciples makes me think about this differently. Luke tells us that Jesus prayed before choosing them, and Judas Iscariot was among those he chose (Luke 6:12–16). These were the people who would walk closely with him, hear his teaching, and witness his ministry.

Yet being chosen to walk with Jesus did not mean each person would respond faithfully. They were human beings who still had choices to make.Judas is the painful example. He had a place among the twelve, but he went to the chief priests and agreed to hand Jesus over for thirty pieces of silver (Matthew 26:14–16). Judas’ betrayal was his own decision. Still, it did not stop Jesus from carrying out what he had come to do. That speaks to me because we often give another person’s actions too much power over our purpose. Betrayal can hurt deeply, and it deserves to be taken seriously, but someone else’s choice does not get to decide whether we remain faithful to God.

I believe there is a lesson here about the people who walk beside us. Someone may be part of one season of our lives without being meant to accompany us through every season. We do not have to turn every ending into a battle or label every person who leaves as a Judas. Some relationships change because people make different choices, grow in different directions, or cannot walk with us in the way we need. We can acknowledge the hurt, learn from what happened, and still ask God how to move forward with wisdom.That is also why I am asking myself whether the thing consuming my attention deserves as much of it as I have given it.

 Am I so focused on keeping someone in my corner that I have stopped listening to God? Am I rehearsing a disappointment over and over while neglecting the people I can serve today? Those are hard questions, especially when the relationship mattered. But they can help us see when pain has become a distraction from the life we are called to live.If someone cannot go farther with you, pray for the wisdom to accept what is true without letting bitterness take root. Grieve what needs to be grieved. Set the boundaries you need. Then keep your heart open to the work God is doing in you and through you. Jesus continued his mission even though one of the people closest to him betrayed him. We can keep following him, too, one faithful step at a time.Have you ever realized that a relationship or a painful situation was taking your attention away from what God was asking you to do?
