What if the Soviets accidentally drilled straight into the gates of hell?
In 1989, a Christian broadcast claimed that scientists in Siberia recorded screams from the damned—deep beneath the earth’s surface. The story spread like wildfire: headlines, whispers in churches, campfire chills... and even a recording that gave people goosebumps.
But what’s the truth behind this terrifying tale?
In this episode, we dig into the urban legend of the “Well to Hell”—from its bizarre beginnings with a Finnish religious newsletter, to the viral hoax involving a Norwegian teacher, and the infamous audio clip revealed to be from a horror film. We also briefly descend into the real science of the Kola Superdeep Borehole, the deepest man-made hole on Earth—and how it actually changed our understanding of geology (no hellfire involved).
It’s a wild ride of Soviet secrets, supernatural spin, sound hoaxes, and the bizarre way urban legends catch fire—and refuse to die. If you love creepy mysteries, debunked conspiracy theories, or just want to finally settle that viral "hell audio" clip, this one’s for you.
