What we obtain in the pact may be 'real', but it is fleeting in a finite universe. The Faucian bargain is a deal likewise made where we exchanged freedom and thought, i.e., spirit, for fleeting promises of protection, safety, health, and a powerful new science, all of which evaporated like the feast of the Lamia upon further observation.
