What happens after death? A barefoot Indian mystic answered that question with a lifetime of visions, and his answer began in a well filled with corpses. Sadhu Sundar Singh was...
mostra di piùSadhu Sundar Singh was one of the most extraordinary spiritual figures of the early 20th century. Walking through the mountains of Tibet preaching the love of Christ, he was seized by hostile villagers, robbed, and thrown into a dry well where the dead were cast. He was left there to die. And in that pit, as his life drained away, he testified that Christ appeared to him and an angel lifted him out, bringing him back from the threshold of death.
This episode tells the story of his visions, recorded in his classic book Visions of the Spiritual World. Sundar Singh described death as the soul leaving the body like a man leaving a house, and he spoke of the spiritual world as a reality as near as our own breath. He described heaven as a realm of radiant light and glorious landscapes, where the redeemed dwell in joy and grow in love and knowledge forever. He also described hell, not as an arbitrary punishment but as the natural condition of a soul that has closed itself off from God's love. He reported speaking with the departed, learning from Christ, and seeing the world beyond the veil.
The experiences made him fearless. He surrendered everything he owned, dressed in the simple saffron robe of a sadhu, and walked barefoot across India, Tibet, and beyond for nearly thirty years, preaching and healing. His writings were translated into dozens of languages. In 1929 he vanished into the Himalayas at age 39, never to be seen again; his followers believed he had finally gone home to the world he had described so often. Listen to the mystic who died in a well and came back to tell the world what waits beyond.
