mostra di piùTHE BATTS FAMILY: In the episode, Brittany stated that there are no direct descendants of Kate Batts and after more research, I (Brittany) feel okay reaffirming this statement. There are Batts family descendants as Frederick Batts did have two brothers who moved from North Carolina with Frederick and his wife. The brothers of Frederick did have children and these lines are thriving today. I have exhaustively searched online and cannot find any evidence that Frederick and Kate Batts had any children that had children and so on and so forth. Sources have differing information regarding how many children the couple had and what their names were. There were also differing statements on Kate Batt’s name, one source says her name was Mary Catherine Williams Batts, another says Elizabeth Catherine Williams Batts. I searched familysearch.org, ancestry.com, and other articles written about the incident and there was no clear information regarding the direct descendants of Kate Batts (under either of those names). I did learn in this additional research that Kate Batts and Lucy Bell were aunt/niece. Kate Batts was the daughter of Lucy Bell’s brother, John Williams, Jr. Most of the sources circled back to the findagrave.com listing for Kate and Frederick and there are no children listed on this site. If you are a direct descendant of Kate Batts, we would love to hear from you and see any records you may have to clear this up. If I am wrong, I will certainly be sure that we put that information out there. There is plenty information regarding the Bell family and there are many direct descendants thriving in the community today.
Don’t forget to be a good human this week!
