Story Transcript:

En: Paris was shining under the sun on a cool morning.

Fr: Pierre marchait sur le trottoir.
En: Pierre was walking on the sidewalk.

En: In front of him stood a little bakery.

En: He decided to go in and buy a croissant.

En: Inside the bakery, a friendly woman was at the cash register.

En: "Bonjour, I would like a croissant, please," said Pierre.

En: The woman looked at him with a mischievous smile.

Fr: "Un croissant pour Pierrot, hein?
En: "A croissant for Pierrot, huh?"

Fr: "Pierre rougit.
En: Pierre blushed.

Fr: "Non, non, c'est Pierre," essaya-t-il de corriger.
En: "No, no, it's Pierre," he tried to correct her.

Fr: La femme éclata de rire.
En: The woman burst into laughter.

En: "Alright, Pierrot," she said, handing him his croissant.

En: This scene repeated itself every day.

En: Pierre was becoming more and more offended.

En: He didn't want to be called Pierrot.

En: Every day, he talked to his friends Camille and Élise about this playful woman.

Fr: Un jour, Camille eut une idée.
En: One day, Camille had an idea.

En: "Why don't you show her your ID card?

En: She will stop calling you Pierrot," she suggested.

Fr: L'idée fît sourire Pierre.
En: The idea made Pierre smile.

En: The next day, Pierre walked into the bakery again.

En: When the woman smiled and was about to call him Pierrot, Pierre pulled out his ID card.

Fr: "Voici mon nom réel," déclara-t-il fièrement.
En: "Here is my real name," he proudly declared.

Fr: La femme regarda la carte.
En: The woman looked at the card.

En: Being serious was not natural for her, but this time, she genuinely tried.

En: Finally, a soft laugh came out of her.

En: "Alright, alright, Pierre it is," she said, serving him his croissant.

En: From that day on, she called him Pierre.

En: And every time Pierre came into the bakery, they both shared a little laugh.

En: This is how this little story ends, with Pierre, or should I say Pierrot, enjoying his croissant in the sweet Parisian morning.
