In Eastern Oklahoma, the Native American Chocktaw Indians and local farmers were experiencing a rash of stolen and ransacked from their homes and farms. They set up traps to try to catch whatever was taking their goods. Eventually, woman and children began going missing at a massive rate. The people banded together and set up a hunting party to catch whoever was taking them. Joshua Leflore, a French-Chocktaw man, led the hunt party. Hamas Tubby of the Chocktaw and his six sons, each over 7’ tall, went into the forest on horseback, searching for the culprits.
They charged into the woods, where they encountered a putrid smell, reeking of death. Several large ape-like hairy bipedal creatures stood beside a hill of dead bodies and body parts. Each stood 8’ tall. Three creatures confronted the men and swung at the men and their horses, striking them down. One of the men was decapitated by the creatures. It was a fierce and bloody confrontation. Ultimately, the Chocktaw Indians were able to defeat the hairy creatures.
So, is this legend true? Did this really happen, or is it just a tall tale passed down as local lore?
