After seven years away from the public limelight, The Amenta this week exploded back onto the scene with their crushing new single "Sere Money".


Keyboard player Timothy Pope sat down with HEAVY to talk us through the song and what has been happening over those long years away from their beloved music scene.

"It was quite a strange song for us," he said of 'Sere Money. "Obviously, for anyone who has heard it, it's a very different sound for us. We're known for being a little more straight forward blasting and aggressive and that sort of stuff but this ones got a bit more of a rock swagger to it. And it wasn't something we pre-conceived, it was just as we were writing in this particular song Eric our guitar player had improvised a whole bunch of riffs and recorded it. I went around to his place to write some stuff and we listened back to that recording and there was that little chunk that ended up being the verse riff that we both heard and thought had some magic. It was a process of working with that and that song came out really, really quickly. I had the chorus riff and after that, we celebrated by going out and hitting the town but the next session we finished the entire last section in one go so it was really quick for us. It's not necessarily indicative of the sound of the album, but it's definitely indicative of the ethos of the album, which is we're doing a lot of very different stuff for us. It's still really dark and ugly but there's a lot of surprises in there."
