Bet that debt forgiveness will backfire if they do it. If I lived poor for a decade (while working, after college) to pay my debts, then finally am free of them as I hit my late 30's or 40's, am I REALLY going to want to pay higher taxes for others to be free of THEIR debts? I don't think so.

I know an awful lot of people who spent a decade paying off college debt....don't think they're going to be in favor of this.

don't know how well that carrot is going to work. How many voters are they actually going to buy? How many more voters actually PAID their debts?
