Sunday Sermon — Stop Mourning Saul
A word for the living in a time of transition.
There comes a moment when the old order may still be visible, still occupying the chair, still making noise, still demanding attention — yet the Spirit of the Lord has already moved on.
Samuel mourned Saul, but the Lord asked him a necessary question:
“How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go…”
— 1 Samuel 16:1
This sermon is for those who can see the old systems failing, yet still find themselves waiting for those same systems to validate what God has already made plain.
Saul may still sit in the palace for a season.
But the oil has moved.
David may still be in the field.
But the Spirit has already come upon him.
This is not a call to hate Saul.
It is not a call to war, bitterness, or reckless action.
It is a call to stop mourning what God is through with, to lay aside every weight, to press toward the mark, and to move forward in peace with clean hands.
The living are not called to remain trapped in the old validation loop.
The living are called to fill the horn and go.
Look unto Jesus.
Seek first the Kingdom.
Preserve what is true.
Build what should exist instead.
Stop mourning Saul.
Fill the horn.
Go.
