This week we review and discuss Mayday, an action comedy movie starring Ryan Reynolds, Kenneth Branagh and Maria Bakalova, about a US Navy pilot who is shot down over the USSR in the last years of the Cold War while on a spy mission and has to make his way back home with the help of a retired KGB agent.

We discuss how we were pleasantly surprised by this movie which initially didn't look like much but on closer look is actually much better than most streaming movies like it, how the symbolism that underpins the story  is some of the best we've seen in a while in a movie, how the movie ends up being less than the sum of its parts because it doesn't quite put in the effort to realise its ambitions, and much more.
