Key Takeaways:

[Show Intro]

[:24] “I have the opportunity to chat with John Vuong today. He’s the owner and founder of LOCAL SEO SEARCH. He helps small and medium size businesses rank on Google.”

[1:17] “So, it’s perfect timing because I’ve become addicted to googling myself everyday. I’m really loving this whole SEO thing. I want to know, how did you get into SEO?”

[1:53] “Prior to starting my agency, I was a salesperson. I was doing sales. Advertising sales, as well as print media and dabbing in digital.”

[2:53] “So, you had a really great start. Yellow pages. That’s dealing with a lot of businesses and industries.”

[3:00] “Tell us what are some SEO tips that businesses can use right now to boost their website rankings organically?”

[3:15] “SEO is a long term play.”

[3:30] “Find out what the foundation of the business is.”

[4:00] “Ultimately, there are a lot of competitors who have been doing what you’re doing a lot longer than yourself.”

[4:13] “You need to carve out yourself and who you want to become.”

[4:29] “If you’ve been in business for a couple of years, you understand who your ideal customer is.”

[5:00] “SEO or a digital presence will not help you run a better business.”

[5:40] “Once you have been in business for a couple years and you know who 15 - 20 ideal customers are, the age, the region, how they spend their time, what keywords to use...then you can go after them.”

[6:33] “How do you boost your reputation online?”

[6:55] “Generationally, these businesses actually took care of their customers. They spread their business by referral and word of mouth.”

[8:04} “My suggestion is to make it a habit and a process within the company to start harvesting a good reputation management process.” PRO TIP: ASK FOR A REVIEW.

[9:10] “What about video testimonials? Can you talk about how powerful those are?”

[9:30] “When you are able to have a video testimonial, have a crew go in, have a case study, it has a huge impact on a potential client.”

[10:18] “People consume content differently. So, you want to make sure that you hit them in as many different formats as possible, as long as it’s geared towards where your customers are looking at content.”

[11:06] “Focus on a couple of channels and do it wickedly, like awesome.”

[11:54] “Speaking of marketing, can you give us some 2020 marketing tips?”

[12:12] “Marketing 101 is understanding who your customers are and catering any sort of content or deliverable message to your ideal customers.”

[12:36] “Depending on how they consume and what they’re looking for, you want to position yourself as the expert.”

[12:55] “Are you hitting them at the right time or moment with a product or service that they can’t live without?”

[13:20] “When you position yourself as an expert and Google recognizes it you’re going to get a lot of inbound leads of your desired user base and customers.”

[14:16] “If you want to be known as an expert in whatever that specialty is, you have to speak that language, understand it inside out and become a thought leader for it.”

[14:43] “You have to own your backyard first.”

[14:56] “Write good content. Well researched, in depth information, as opposed as to producing constant information just to say i’m writing content.”

[15:04] “Put out 3-5000k pieces. It might take you 3 or 4 mos to produce a well thought out roundup or well researched document with great images, but that would at least position you as a thought leader.”

[15:53] “I’ve been taking my highest listened podcast, searching keywords, and turning those into blogs.”

[16:38] “What do you want to be known for as a thought leader and an expert? What is your niche? What is going to draw your tribe to yourself?”

[16:50] “Strategies for [COVID] now and after...”

[17:37] “What are your customers doing differently now than they used to? So, they’re probably spending more time online…”

[18:07] “Say you’re a dentist, people expect virtual tours now. They expect PPE, face shields. People are looking for a visual representation, so maybe you hire a videographer…”

[19:08] “You have to adapt quickly, but ultimately it’s all about foundation still.”

[19:55] “To build a powerful video marketing strategy, what does that take?”

[20:12] “People want video because it’s such an easy way to be informed.”

[20:59] “You want to be authentic, overall.”
